Looks good!

Where have the heroes/villains been "officially" confirmed? The only place I've seen that list is Wiki. Not like it's a huge deal, but I just haven't seen where that was officially mentioned.

I think there have been a few reviews/videos that have explained the character creation a little - how you pick a power set, delivery method, and travel power to basically create your character. (i.e. - create a hawkman-ish character by selecting the electricty power set, mace delivery method, and flight).

There also have been some videos that explain the "traits" - like how you get points as you level that you can assign to things like super-strength. So someone with one point in super-strength/weaponization might be able to throw a mailbox, a few mor points and you can throw a car, and a few more points and you can throw a bus.

Either that same video or one of the doomsday mission ones also explained the "roles" - how you can choose one of three roles (offensive, defensive, and support) on the fly and (I think) your actual powers change. This mechanic is supposed to allow any group to quickly fill out with the necessary tanks/dps/healers they may need and is a bit revolutionary compared to existing traditional MMOs.

The "death" mechanic at the moment is currently that most/all instanced missions will be timed - and if you are defeated there is a period of time before you automatically revive (increasing with each consecutive defeat). The penalty becomes running out of time needed to finish the mission instead of big resurection, xp, or corpse run penalites.

I mention this stuff as it's the more significant things that seem to differentiate DCUO from Champions Online and City of Heroes/Villians so far.

My personal opinion (in following both Champions and this so far) is - Champions seems to have a slightly deeper power depth/customization (so far), but but does not seem to look or play as well as DCUO has so far in demos. They both seem to have a very similar play style/mechanic though.

Something else to consider is that DCUO is still in pre-alpha or alpha and has a lot of time left to grow. Champions seems to be plagued with issues as it was originally marketed to be PC & 360, but the 360 part has been delayed indefinitely. It's also had several release pushbacks - including the most recent to 9/1/09 - which was just announced this weekend after a recent formal announcement of 7/14/09!

The reason I mention Champions is that as a PS3/PC game, DCUO is going to be competing for the PC supers MMO marketshare also - the game will need to do well on PC to be a super hit, and that means crushing Champions.

Personally I think this one could end up being a game-changer for Sony if they pull it off well (from both a PS3 and MMO persoective). I can't wait personally. (And what I wouldn't give to be able to get into that alpha testing and be able to help out - a cool and deep power selection/character development system could make or break this one )
