I was ordering Memories of Murder from Yes Asia and needed a filler to get free shipping and a $5 coupon. I noticed many Taiwan Blu-rays that are ~$20 that fit the bill. However, there is next to no discussion on any of these movies here or on any of the Asian movie forums I frequent. Is there an English language forum that reviews these Taiwan movies?

JSDVD has Ali for 380NTD . It is released by a company called Pony. Never bought any of their movies before. All mine from Taiwan are Deltamac, except Defiance from New He-Ming. It looks fine but no special features, and if memory serves no menu, it just starts.
Does Pony have any relationship with Alliance, they seem to release a lot of the same titles. I saw some Pony BDs in the store the cover art screams fake. So I never bought any. Also the prices are really low. Most BDs in Taiwan right now are 1000NT+. I like to get deals, but I hate buying inferior products. I did rent Taken, by Yam/Vievision. It sells for around 700 same as Defiance. It was good. When I see something like Ali for 380, I wonder if it is worth it, or if is it a case of you get what you pay for. I'll probably buy it just to see.

I saw my very first Taiwan Blu-ray last night and it's not very encouraging.
Miao Miao LoveHKFilm Review I will not go into what the movie is about other than to say that it's coming of age film about a Japanese exchange student in Taiwan and a musician. The Blu-ray was single layer BD-25. The 1080p24 video (1.85:1) was encoded in AVC and had very high bitrates of 30-40Mb/s. The audio choices included Mandarin in DD 5.1 or DTS HD MA 5.1. The movie was subtitled in optional traditional or simplified Chinese or English. The quality of the subtitles was very good. The bad news is that video, despite the high bitrates, was uncoverted DVD resolution at best with poor contrast and muted colors. According to IMDB, this was shot on 35mm film and there is no way the poor resolution is due to the film source. The image looks as if it was taken from a SD master. There was zero extra features. Just finished comparing my Ali DVD to PONY release of Ali on Blu-ray. I would say the same as xradman regarding Miao Miao, it was the DVD converted to Blu-ray. No upgrade in PQ. It is AVC Bitrate changes between 13 and 15 Mbps.

Has anyone else here bought other Pony blu-ray releases in Taiwan. If so, would love to hear their comments. What do you mean by this? I have been browsing their website the last few days, and did not see anywhere on their website that says they offer bulk discounts???
