Japan The Last Guardian – Fumito Ueda Interviews

Genre: Action-Adventure Players: Single-Player Rating: Pending (ESRB 'Teen' Expected)

Released on Blu-ray Disc: TBA 2010

06.02.2009 Trailer 1: E3 2009 Debut

09.24.2009 Trailer 2: TGS 2009 with Behind The Scenes Footage

Quote:
As you might have guessed, players take control of the little boy from the trailer. The basic game design has the boy being young and thus weak and lacking abilities. The giant eagle makes up for these areas. As a young boy, the main character cannot rely on his strength to get past obstacles. However, perhaps he can overcome some trials by bringing the eagle with him.

There's a care aspect for the eagle as well. You can feed the eagle and remove spears and arrows that have pierced it. Ueda feels that the development staff will have to take care to strike a balance and make sure the care aspects do not becoming a chore.

Growth and stage puzzles are major elements to the game. There are platforming aspects as well -- you can climb, grab things and crawl.

With Last Guardian, however, one area of the stage design involves how you go about getting the eagle to do stuff for you. You can either order it around, or you can have it cooperate with you. For instance, you could make the eagle move by throwing around something that it likes.

It's a job posting, the ICO mention at the top is just in relation to what team it is.

Recruiting Animators, artists, and I think level design or general game design.

At least this means they'll be working on it a bit more heavily I guess.

The chains you climb in Ico aren't nearly so chunky, can't remember any landscaping quite like that in Ico or Shadow of the Colossus.

I'm looking forward to Team Ico's next project more than any other game for the PS3. It's good to see they are starting to work on it.

Depending on the scope of that pic, it could be the ruins of the temple in Collossus. If those are little trees right at the bottom, and the chain is gigantic it makes sense. I'm just guessing though.

The HMTL link has Wanda in the title, which was part of the Japanese name of Shadows of the Collossus

This is one of the few game teams that can show me nothing and I get excited about it. Don't know what it is don't need to, it's going to be awesome.

I loved the first game "Ico", can I play "Shadow of the Colossus" on my PS3 even though it is a PS2 game?

As long as you don't have a 40GB model (any region).

I've got a Euro 60GB which has the hardware+software combination emulation and SotC runs perfectly.

I really Wish the Shadow of the Collossus had come out for the PS3 instead of the PS2....it could have been much more grand

So, while I was reminding myself how spine-tingling the PlayStation startup sounds are I came across a few Team ICO things I'd never seen before.

PlayStation ICO test footage - includes some CG cutscenes and early PS2 footage with the obvious improvement in lighting.

PlayStation 2 NICO test footage - the final game's music has been added on for this bonus DVD presentation.

Unreleased SCEE Shadow of the Colossus Trailer

When clear footage of the PS3 game is released, my head will explode.
