I have the same problem. The PS3 turns on and enters remote mode and then the PSP times out. If you try again after the PSP times out then it will connect since the PS3 is in remote play. You just can't wait too long or the PS3 will automatically power down if a PSP is not connected to it within a certain amount of time.

Mine is doing this, and it is really starting to piss me off. The only way to make it not do it, is by turning "Remote Start" off.

This was my favorite feature that I was waiting for them to put into an update, and now it is faulty.

Guess I'll have to wait for another update (patch fix) to solve this issue.

---

The only reason why I think it would be doing this, would maybe be like it's in a "Standby" mode trying to see if a PSP system is trying to link up with it? I don't know.

When it turns on by itself, it says the following message:

"Connect the PSP system using a remote play connection.

If you do not establish a remote play connection within a certain period of time, the PS3 system will turn off automatically."

---

I haven't had that problem. Sucks for those who do.

yeah I thought of that and it still wont enter remote play i've tried several different things (different wifi connections, having the system on as opposed to off etc.) but if I try connecting via internet it won't let me on no matter what...

You have a PSP right? Do this:

1. Turn on Remote Start under Remote Play Settings on your PS3.
2. Turn off your PS3 system.
3. Turn on your PSP.
4. Turn on Remote Play on your PSP (it should turn on your PS3.).
5. Turn off Remote Play on your PSP.
6. Turn off your PS3 AND your PSP.

And wahlaa!!! Your PS3 will turn on by itself about 60 second later AFTER you just shut it off, without you touching one button. It's annoying as hell.

Maybe someone can confirm but I think picking bold, italic etc. on message boards didn't work before but now it does.

Ooh this is a JUICY one

You can now play a video as it downloads from the PlayStation Store. There's a new PLAY button above the 'Perform in Background' button and you can also triangle-button a video already downloading in Download Management and select 'Play' there.

---

Check out voice/video chat!

Completely new visual design where each persons video or graphic window animates in from one of six bouncy balls in a white room. All the TRIANGLE button options have been reproduced with icons.

You don't need to invite someone specifically before it lets you in now.

---

New information bar at the bottom of the web browser so you know where the link you're clicking on goes. If you check your bookmarks, there's a new website added explaining what the Trend Micro Web Security does if you choose to install it (Tools > Browser Security). Amusing pictures.

---

New grouping options (SQUARE button shortcut) for 'Game' and 'Video' lists.

Damn, what the hell happened to update 1.94, I visited the playstation website everyday this week and didn't see it, just saw the 1.93 and now there is a 2.00. I just cheched it while typing this and it still says 1.93, I need to just start pluggin' my internet connection to it when you guys say there is an update. And one more question, I see you guys say xmb alot when discussing updates, can someone explain what this feature does, I hope it's the feature to let you play your own music in the background of which game your playing like on xbox 360. Thanks if anyone can help.

Overall I am satisfied with the new update and I am really liking the PS3/PSP connectivity. Thanks to Sony for this great update but give me DTS-HDMA and also Profile 1.1.

XMB = Cross Media Bar / Xross Media Bar

Basically the PS3's main user interface or operating system:

1.94 just put the next-generation shock-buzz onto your controller (which it can't even use), just so you could play Ratchet & Clank--
Which's why they put it on the Ratchet & Clank disk.

And with nothing to see here, we have moved on.

I have followed those steps and my PS3 does not turn on by itself without the PSP.

I can get the PS3 to power up by itself by removing power to my router and reconnecting. The PS3 powers up and then powers itself down after a few minutes but does not repeat.

Incase anyone missed it:

Quote:
When speaking with SCEA representatives, we found out that in-game XMB support is still in the works, and that additional video support is "almost definitely" happening. However, there's still no clear indication as to when these features will be incorporated. A regular schedule of updates is planned for the coming year, but specific details were not provided.
