I don't know if they were trying to create a Criterion line. It appears that they just wanted a way to differentiate their most popular titles from the rest of their releases. At the moment it's just Best Picture winners but I won't be surprised if they add popular non-Best Picture winners.

I'm one of them.

I'm blissfully ignorant. If it looks and sounds good to me, then usually I'm ok. As long as the subject matter is intact (or somehow enhanced, be it by additional scenes, etc.), I'm okay.

A new product line to utilize a marketing campaign, and making a new "Criterion line" are two different things.

Perfection? Audio is good. No complaints there. Video perfect? Stop lying to yourself. While it's not a complete turd, it's far from perfect. How could you not notice the smearing in the opening battle scenes? I have a 46" screen and that whole segment looks atrocious. It probably looks even worse on a bigger screen. The picture does improve after he escapes. Then it is inconsistent through out the whole film. Some scenes look great, others don't...facial detail is mostly lost etc.. bleh

Was the extended scenes shot in 2005 or some other year than the movie.
In the firing squad scene why is Pheonix's hair look much shorter and different..

sure beats the standard version

over all the scene after the battle in germania is hardly an issue I'm talking about the movie in general and you said it yourself scenes look great.
There was no loss in facial on my set in fact it enhanced it

Well...I picked it up yesterday. Haven't had time to watch it yet. Popped it in for a few mins then switched it out for Braveheart. I threw the disk back in and it had loading problems. Probably firmware related. I forgot about 3.0...it should work now...Haven't tried it yet. Anyone else have a slow loading time?

For me, Gladiator is a slow loading disc on my PS3. Took a few minutes.

It had to review all of the consumer complaints before loading.
