But the 2004 DVD and the corresponding Hidef master from which it is derived is as close as we have EVER gotten to the original:

Sadly, even photographic evidence like that isn't enough to convince some people. No use even trying to make a valid point around here anymore as far as I'm concerned.

Indiana Jones is the next big catalog trilogy that will get people frothing.

Jurassic Park won't inspire this much 'devotion', unless Spielberg digitally edits the dinosaurs out of the movie and replaces them with werewolves because Twilight is popular.

I don't know who Adywan is and I don't care if Darth Vader's lightsaber is pink, red, or fuchsia. I'm just saying that if your best evidence is photos of prints or TVs, it's worthless and proves nothing. Do you know what camera were those taken with? What settings each shot was taken with? White balance? Post-processing? The colors in the cap you posted are also nothing like the photo

And yet low res screen caps taken from youtube which are meant to prove that the "colors on this blu ray transfer are wrong" is supposed to be regarded as proof!

As I have already said the fotos of that cinematic print are the best source that we have in the public domain with regards to how this film looked originally --- not the digitally manipulated 1997 special edition or Adywan's revisted version.

Youtube videos prove nothing either. An archival IB print in good condition would indeed be a good reference point, but a digital point-and-shoot camera simply isnt a tool adequate to accurately or consistently capture the colors of that print. You'd have to specifically set up a good digital camera for accurate, properly exposed and consistent photos, "auto" mode wont do the job. I have no idea how those photos were taken. Why is everything that should be white in that shot also have a pinkish cast? I'd be more interested in subjective impressions from people actually watching that print vs. the DVDs.

Reds and whites are clearly delineated in the fotos from that screening.

The person who took them did not define which camera he used but he did say it was new.

If there is a slight pinkish tint in some shots it is most likely that the source of this is the actual cinematic print itself.

The point I have been trying to make is that there is a bogus assertion that somehow the 2004 DVD was innacurate with regards to how the film should look.
And the example that is used more often than not to accentuate this point is the color of the lightsabers.
Nearly every authentic foto taken from either cinematic prints (or publicity stills) proves that the Hidef master(from which the 2004 DVD is sourced) is different but not unfaithful to the original color pallette.

We've been wondering about all the 2004-created lightsaber problems like the ROTJ saber cross, the ANH Falcon training scene, and all the flawed lightsaber shots from ESB. None of us have really mentioned the other ROTJ lightsaber problems introduced in 2004. I've posted shots from ANH and ESB. I might as well go for the trifecta and show a few from ROTJ. I almost forgot about these myself. After this post and the following one with two shots, I really am bowing out of this stupidity. I guess the 2004 DVD didn't honor the original lightsaber color after all. We all know it was red and the 2004 DVD's turned it pink. I'm hoping they take care of these and the other shots I posted/mentioned a couple of pages ago.

This is a film cell that someone is trying to sell on Ebay.
It is from an actual theatrical 1997 special edition print(which according to some is supposed to represent how the film originally looked)

As you can see it has a pink/white core with a mild red glow.

So this is more proof that the 2004 DVD was not so innacurate.
Just like Lucas Film maintained all along(to the chagrin of disinformed/misinformed fan boys)

Just for the record---I don't give a damn as to what colour these sabers are supposed to be.
I will be enjoying the Blu rays no matter how many inconsistencies and anomalies there are.

There were discrepencies in the original theatrical version in 77' but that did not stop anyone from enjoying the film.

A thousand times better than the UK boxset IMO.

I can't wait to have this in my hands.

This isn't a personal insult but as I've said before the response from those in denial about the video transfer is not very adult. Haha this is a message board, I couldn't bully anyone if I wanted to, so please refrain from victimizing yourselves and making me to be a villain (though I did say I was a sith earlier).

If you guys are really okay with the release w/errors that's fine and I support you 100%, but you can't stop other people from spreading the word and providing logical, evidenced information about it's true nature. I've picked on nobody. You all have confronted me with anger and denial, and I've defended myself with sound arguments.
What the hell are you talking about?????

Do you have the Complete Saga Blu-ray discs?? Have you seen them yet???

I suggest you take it easy, as there is ZERO proof on either side at this point.

Both parties should calm down, and take it easy.

When we read professional reviews, we will know, and most of all, when we finally see the films on BD with our very own eyes.

Until then, we get information, and so far it's been pointing towards fixes.

This thread is truly ridiculous!

The video is not the BD, nor does it state that it minted from the actual BD transfer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You people just don't get it, do you???

All this bickering is getting us nowhere!

Peace out!

Just a random note: If you pump the contrast on that 'interlocking cores' shot from ROTJ, white crush totally destroys the interlocking cores. So it's possible that the footage from the trailer is from the 2004 DVD print, only with some image control settings tweaked.

As I have said, no point in over-reacting until we have actual screengrabs from the actual discs.

Why use seven-year-old footage to promote a high-def release? Again, the denial continues to impress me. The evidence is so strong and plentiful against this upcoming release, and the apologists have changed their tune more times than I care to count. What else is there to cling onto?

greg - I agree with you that everything should be taken with a grain of salt. That was my original point about ken's email but I was attacked for being a hater. It's all but evident his email was false and manipulated people into having certain impressions about these discs. If that's not lying, what is it?

This board tolerates misinformation coming from the "positive" end, but any truth or evidence about the errors or flaws receive negative response. When a mod reads this thread I'll get suspended for being mean or something, even though starwarsagent and others have continually accused me of being a hater and asked me to prove my points, which I have logically and thoroughly.
Disney does that with nearly every Blu-ray release.

I'd also like to say that we should wait for reviews, actual reviews from people who know what they're talking about and have seen all of the discs to know what the movies look like on Blu-ray, but I guess it's a little bit too late for that, considering we're nearing a thousand pages without the set even being released.

There's also one more really bad one from Jedi. I have no way of posting it, but it's after Luke takes down Vader. Luke is standing over Vader with his saber still ignited, and the railing right next to Luke is passing right through the blade, so it looks like the lightsaber blade is cut in half.
