The HD DVD version already had a TrueHD track which is also lossless.

If this were Australia or the UK, I'd guess the censorship had to do with the combination of blood & nudity.
(There was, for instance, a case of UK censors removing a shot in "Once Upon a Time in America" of a gun being pressed against an exposed breast. Then there's the ultra ridiculous case of Braveheart, where the UK & Australia allowed one shot of a defenseless, unpleasant, old man having his throat slit, but censored an identical shot of a defenseless attractive girl having her throat slit (wether this is age-ism, sexism, attractiveness-ism or what, I'm not sure. But it's a pretty twisted decision)

As it is, I suspect this is most likely a mastering error/laziness on Dawn Of The Dead. If the rest of the scenes were purely a case of being cut for an R rating (with this shot, alone, actually being modified) Then perhaps the the R1 transfer was just created by taking a copy of the 'R' rated version, and just adding in the all the cut scenes.
With the 'R3' version having actually been created from the original uncut print (before any censorship had taken place)
Seems plausible to me.

What the heck? "No offense, but Americans are basically evil warmongers..."?

Want to follow that up with an "I'm not racist but I hate black people?"
Or the Simpsons' "Call this an unfair generalisation if you must, but old people are no good at anything"

Looking at my previous comments on Braveheart.... have you considered working for the British Board of Film Classification? With that kind of 'logic' I think you'll fit right in

I got it and it is the blood stain...............

Hmmm. And they show some boobs later. Go figure.

My 40 Year Virgin is majorly changed from the unrated DVD I had. I missed the "I actually had to lube up this girls feet part." NO there anymore.

I own the US HD DVD and just watched it recently and that scene is indeed censored. Don't take my word for it, check it for yourself.

From what I've read every U.S. release of this film has this scene censored (for whatever unexplained reason).

Are you sure your not watching the theatrical version? From what I hear, the Blu-ray has both versions on one disc.

No, the Blu-Ray only has the Director's Cut. And like the previous US DVD and HD-DVD releases of the Director's Cut, it has the bloodstain.

Sorry I was asking about The 40-Year-Old Virgin Blu-ray.

I watched my blu ray copy and in all honesty, I'm thinking of offloading it. I love the film, but I prefer the R4 PAL DVD. It seemed to suffer from I'm not sure what the terms are, but it was like oversaturated in brightness, and had edge enhancement. It was like watching it on an uncalibrated TV straight out of the box from the manufacture where sharpness and brightness are all up the wazoo. I found it grating, for want of a better term.

And the boob censoring with blood really does annoy me as it introduces continuity errors (eg, that is the only time you see that blood on the screen, and there is no actual explanation for where it comes from).

Of course, the truck that appears out of nowhere and t-bones the car is still in it. I'd love to fix that. When I first saw the movie that made me jump. The next time I saw it I was watching the side street to watch it's progress. The car literally appears at full speed out of nowhere. I'd love to fix that

Well, there is an explanation if you can find it. It is a legal one. Actress does nudity with a release form signed = boobs. Actress does nudity without a release form signed, and later regrets it = blood splatter.

Is this the actual reason, or is it just speculation? And why wouldn't it apply to overseas releases?

I might be wrong here but I'm pretty sure that the film is supposed to look that way. It's kind of Zack Snyder's thing to push the contrast on his films. He did essentially the same thing in 300. If the older DVD you have doesn't look like this then I'm pretty sure the company doing the R4 transfer was trying to adjust out purposely intended look of the film.
