I just noticed the double dip of 'Stranger Than Fiction' than ran into this thread. I really wish studios would stop wasting time double dipping and release new to Blu-ray releases instead ... If studios can't get it done right the first time around, it shouldn't be on Blu-ray... IMO

Leon is coming out Oct 24 in Germany, hopefully it'll be region free:
http://www.amazon.de/dp/B001CQFNHQ/ One Kinowelt release on http://bluray.liesinc.net/index.php?region=b is region coded (Jumper, which is a Fox movie so no big surprise there), two others are region free. |

I will look forward to both of those, but I'm really hoping we get The Big Blue soon - it's an incredible movie screaming for a Blu-ray release.
Fantastic score by Eric Serra also.

As much as I like Leon: The Professional, my #1 Besson film to have on Blu-ray would be The Big Blue. The visuals, colour palette, locations and scope of the film just scream for hi-def treatment.
Sadly, we probably won't get The Big Blue on... the big blu, for some time since it isn't a hugely popular and action-packed film like La Femme Nikita, Fifth Element or Leon. The DVD version of The Big Blue is one of the most impressive SD films you can pickup. The opening scenes in the Mediterranean (looks like Greek islands?) make you feel like you are THERE.

I'm actually interested in both of those, pending decent specs.
The Messenger is as interesting as any Joan of Arc movie, if you approach it from the theological perspective. Or a historical one. So many filmmakers made the story of a poor saint wrongfully condemned to death by the Inquisition -- but Besson actually dared to ask how this same poor saint could have lead thousands of men into bloody battles. This is just one aspect of his take on things that none of the critics cared for at the time, or since. And once film critics cease to be intellectually curious, we get -- well, we get what we have these days. Nikita (I believe that La Femme is a purely US addition to the title) is an excellent genre piece, of course. This is the film where Besson ceased to make films that are merely pretty to look at. Of course, he has since recanted, which probably accounts for his deliberately low-IQ output of this decade. A pity, really. But I'll get both of these to show my support for a smarter, more challenging Besson. And knowing it's Sony, I'll enjoy them thoroughly. |

The professional is available in either France of Germany, I can't remember which. I stumbled across it on the weekend.
Edit: Germany http://www.amazon.de/L%C3%A9on-Profi...2116674&sr=1-3 |
