Great movie (especially the 1/2 half), great box-set . . . but was I the only one that wasn't totally knocked out by the PQ?
Don't get me wrong, it's beautiful . . . the colors are certainly rich, and in some shots it was obvious that I was seeing a hi-def picture, but comparing many other scenes I'm not sure I could tell it from the DVD. Wizard of Oz was much more obvious to me. I'm no troll -- I love blu-ray, and I know that the focus in some older films is a little softer, especially the soft focus shots often used on women. I'm just saying that while I love the set and consider it a worthwhile purchase, I didn't see as much difference as I usually do when I upgrade from DVD to blu, and I was curious to know if anyone else felt that way. Oz is just so stunning because so much of the film is bright (even in "dark" spots) and it looks like there are people dancing around in your living room, and the reds/browns/etc. that make up so much of GWTW just don't pop like those super-bright Oz technicolor sequences. |

LOL, a friend of mine who loves the GWTW movie and book told me quite emphatically that the book version of Scarlett was terrible. After telling me some details from the book which I agreed seemed out of character, she took the sails out from my interest to watch the TV movie. I also loved watching the making of docs and the bonus feature on Vivian Leigh hosted by Jessica Lange and the Clark Gable one hosted by Peter Lawford. I watched the MGM documentary from my Oz set, terrific and very interesting!! And also very sad now knowing MGM is for sale.

Well, based on solid faith-based comments this puppy WILL play in my USA player, I ordered it this morning. Has anyone ordered from USA before from Amazon UK?....what's the time frame to get?
I'm so happy the UK version doesn't have the When the lion roars feature again on it! |

Got mine today from UK Amazon, and it plays GREAT in my U.S. player! I LOVE it! ALL the extras & film, w/o the carried over USA repeated documentary about MGM w/ Patrick Stewart:When The Lion Roars. The extras are fantastic and very lenghty. I only got through less than 1/2 last night. The restoration feature is from 2004, but it was incredible the film survived, when after each release film elements were ditched or altered and the soundtrack ordered destroyed, was secretely hidden, mislabled by an employee. I've only watched the film once when I had owned it on vhs(2 tapes).
Just the extras as far as picture quality is stellar. They went to great lengths and were very lucky in many aspects and developed a software specifically for technicolor restoration. |

hi guys, are there noticeable differences between the BD version and DVD one for Gone with the Wind? I want to give the 70th aniversary edition to my mother for her birthday and the BD Collector's edition isn't out yet in my country and I could buy the 65th aniversary DVD collector's edition if the overall quality difference isn't that massive.
Thanks, Bogdan. |
