United Kingdom All The Boys Love Mandy Lane

Is out on Blu today !! Unfortunately it's Region B locked unlike The Orphange which is Region All, both are released by Optimum Home Entertainment.

Cant wait to grab my copies on the way home from work, If Mandy Lane looks anything like the DVD copy looked upscaled on my full HD tv the HD transfer should be amazing looking.

Pretty good little movie too.

Naw Blu-ray is impossible to hack, so far no one has found a way to change regions except a tiny little loophole in some New Line Cinema titles via the PS3.
It's to do with distribution rights in other countries and because Mandy Lane as an example has still to be released in the states.

I'm really disappointed with the PQ of the blu-ray version it's so grainy, personally the DVD looks far better upscaled.

I'm going to blind-buy it at some point, something tells me I might enjoy it.

Region B locked?

I read a few weeks ago on a press release that it was being released Region All. Well there's thirty bucks down the drain. Remind me never to preorder a blu-ray from another country.

I am unsure why every time grain is brought into review discussions it is always referred to as bad. I have not seen the disc in question but just a few days ago had the pleasure of seeing ITV DVD-Granada's treatment of Black Narcissus which reveals an enormous amount of grain. And I could not be any happier with the results as it hands down beats any SDVD presentation I have seen before (and I do own the 2DVD French release). Yes, there was substantially less grain on the SDVD release but it is that much less impressive placed next to the BD.

I hope you do not take this post the wrong away but I am certainly at the point where I believe that the more we talk about grain and why it is on the BDs we buy the better. I am aware of past discussions on this forum addressing the same subject and suffice to say I won't tire of defending the idea of having on BR what the director intended not what some studio DNR applicator assumed film should look like.

Best,
Pro-B

I totally get where you're coming from, I'm just saying that compared to the DVD copy that I rented and the Blu Ray that I bought I thought that the DVD copy looked alot cleaner than the blu-ray version.

I watched the Blu Ray in full last night and now that i have watched it in full in HD i must admit that it's obviously been the director's intention to have the grain present because the movie does have a washed out, processed look, and it's obviously a send up of the old 80's slashers so he has went for that look.

I really should have watched the whole disc rather than flick through it before i opened my big mouth.

I hope this isn't annoying...

I read this was going to be an all region release (on another site that will not be named), so I ordered it. It arrived today with a big ole "B" on the back. Which is correct?

Well, whoever is responsible for the news that the disc is coded ABC is clearly unaware of who and what Optimum Releasing represent. So, let's make this very clear (once again):

Unless explicitly noted expect ALL Optimum Releasing Blu-Rays to be coded B-only. Optimum represent Studio Canal in the UK and are required to code their discs.

Hope this helps with any future purchases.

Yep the disc is definately Region B i have tested it in my friends US PS3 because he wanted to borrow it. It's because we are the first country to get it on Blu/DVD and it has different distributors.

Sorry.

I knew I wasn't crazy, though. "Blu-Ray Region Code Info" lists the disc as Region Free.

I have a US PS3 and the disc plays perfectly when I tested it yesterday. As stated in the review, the special features will not work since they are standard def PAL but the film and menu are fine.
