Hmmm looks like I am not buying the U.S. release this Tuesday. Will this be region free or do we know yet?

As it's Universal, it's HOPEFULLY going to be region-free.

No need to buy the US version now. Phew!

As soon as this is confirmed "region free" with no play issues with the extras, I'm all over it.

Did have a hunch about this so I did buy/pre order the region B disc since this is the first release from universal on bd here in europe.

But WOW BD50 sounds great but think the PQ is the same but more space for extra. So looks like I can hide away my thing dvd disc.

So 15 october will be a exciting day for me!!.

If the standard def supplements are PAL, that could be a problem for us Region A PS3 owners.

Odd. Isn't the "U-Control" in the American version just the "Terror takes Shape" documentary in a different format?

What's happening here, is this a misprint, or is Universal going to be having the same extras twice on one disk?

It includes most of the documentary, but not all footage.

I hope so, because I like to watch the documentary full screen.

Me, three, but then what's the point of having any U-Control on this disk? They're better off removing the U-Control entirely and just presenting the extras as they were on the HDDVD.

Not much I guess, but i suppose it adds an extra viewing option for those who like that sort of thing.

That was my first thoughts. I believe the extras were SD on the HD-DVD so more than likely they are on the blu-ray which would mean PAL, so for people with US ps3 they might as well save money and buy the US version.

I can play US Blu ray standard def features on my Australian PS3 (region B), doesn't it work the other way around too?

They most likely won't be PAL as the disc includes a Japanese subtitle track. Japan is not a PAL country. So I think the chances are they will be NTSC.

why is that the U.K/Japan get a nice 50gb version with all the extras and we get 25gb shit?

what gives? specially for a title like 'The Thing'

are these studios that disparate to double dip us here in the states?

Well my *guess* is the existence of the extra soundtracks pushed the movie and U-Control over the 25GB limit, so they had to so a BD50 either way. If you're using a BD50, you may as well use it as well as you can.

can't wait for this, I have the rubbish non-anamorphic DVD version so to see it in cleaned up 1080p will be a real treat.

So, which is the best sci fi horror; The Thing or Alien... Hmmmm, tricky.
