Default Help!

Whats up folks. Alright so given Netflix and Best Buy's recent announcements regarding Bluray I'm officially on the Bluray side now.

Now I just heard about this new deal going on at Amazon. They have some EXCELLENT titles available and I've decided to get these 15...

1) Crash [Blu-ray] - Karina Arroyave
2) Training Day [Blu-ray] - Denzel Washington
3) The Phantom of the Opera [Blu-ray] - Gerard Butler
4) The Last Samurai [Blu-ray] - Ken Watanabe
5) Superman Returns [Blu-ray] - Brandon Routh
6) The Departed [Blu-ray] - Leonardo DiCaprio
7 Casino Royale [Blu-ray] - Daniel Craig
8) Enter the Dragon [Blu-ray] - Bruce Lee
9) Cruel Intentions [Blu-ray] - Sarah Michelle Gellar
10) The Patriot (Extended Cut) [Blu-ray] - Mel Gibson
11) Blue Planet (IMAX) [Blu-ray] - Ben Burtt
12) 300 [Blu-ray] - Gerard Butler
13) Troy - The Director's Cut [Blu-ray] - Brad Pitt
14) The Aviator [Blu-ray] - Alec Baldwin
15) Terminator 3 - Rise of the Machines [Blu-ray] - Arnold Schwarzenegger

My main question/issue is this. Will there features/extras on these discs that can be found on a regular DVD? Like "Deleted Scenes" or "Making Of", etc? I don't really care about PiP (although I won't deny its a good extra to throw in there in the future). However I just want to make sure that there is some content besides the movie on most Bluray movies that have been released so far.

Also if anyone has any opinions about the movies I listed please let me know! For example if a movie completely sucks or whatever...

Thanks in advance to those who answer my question. Also keep in mind that I do not own a BD Player right now. I'm waiting on the Panny BD50 or another high quality Profile 2.0 Player. Hopefully the Panny will get excellent reviews but if it doesn't get all around rave reviews I'll wait a lil bit longer to see whats out there. I figure it wouldn't hurt to start building my library up now. And just so you know the price for all of those is $215 flat....kinda expensive but those are pretty stellar quality titles IMO so I think its worth every penny.

P.S. Anyone read engadgethd over here? Have you see TruthTeller or Nfinity. Those two might be the most pathetic deluded HD DVD fanboys I've EVER seen. I mean I was neutral before and kinda hoping that HD DVD would win but I'm a pragmatist at the end of the day. Toshiba screwed themselves over with their less than stellar advertising and now they're going to lose. Time to move on...

Umm I had ZERO invested...

I just don't like sony and really didn't want them to win since to me they're anti-consumer and overpriced piece of sh*t when it comes to electronics.

Right now I have no money invested in either. I have the Amazon order ready to go at checkout but I first wanted to find out peoples opinions about the movies and get my questions answered about the features on each disc.

Those are all great titles to pick up. I'm not that concerned with the extras myself. Just want great PQ and SQ.

It has been my experience that if features were on the DVD then they will be on the Blu-ray version too, things like deleted scenes, the making of whatever, etc. I just checked a few movies 300, CR, The Departed, Troy, Last Samurai and they all have those type of standard extras.

You have NO idea how great that bit of news is. Thanks a lot man. I just placed the order and I signed up for this "Amazon Prime" free trial thing which gives me 2 Day Shipping FREE!

Anyways I can't wait till I get a player now. And theres so many more movies I want to see.

The only movie I regret not being able to see on Bluray will be Transformers...

But surely it will eventually come to the Bluray catalogue once the war is completely and officially over. I just hope that doesn't take too long.

This may be true for some of the more recently released movies, but it does NOT hold true for catalogue titles. As example, the Terminator 2 Blu-ray is woefully short on extras when compared to legacy DVD releases of the film.

I highly suggest spending some time doing feature comparison research between DVD and Blu-ray titles if the supplements are important to you (they certainly are to me). I find the following sites invaluable for assisting with this:

http://www.dvdcompare.net/ - compares DVDs from multiple regions and has a growing section of Blu-ray and HD-DVD comparissons.

http://www.dvdbeaver.com/ - in-depth reviews and screenshot comparissons of films on DVD and Hi-def formats.

Fair enough, but you do realise that Blu-ray is far more than just Sony, right? They're not even the majority patent holder!

Edit: Oooh, I'm now an expert (allegedly)! :-)

Lol no problem. And I know sony isn't the ONLY company behind bBluray but its still a major stakeholder and has a very big interest in the format. So from that aspect I was less inclined to support the format.

But hey alls fair in love and war and Bluray won so I don't see the point of fighting a stupid pointless battle.

Thanks for those links KingLeerUk.

There isn't one title on your list that I don't already own or wouldn't mind owning. Great selections.

After the Warner defection from HD DVD, this was extensively discussed here. We welcome all new members no matter what was said in the past. Its history, and I would encourage people not to dig this crap up only to throw in someone's face. Both sides are very passionate about their format, but most of us HD movie fans (blu and HD DVD) just want one format and we want our movies. Having studios exclusive to either format helps no one.

Welcome to the site and have fun here.

Always happy to help CassilineKnight. Just taking one of your listed titles as example, Enter the Dragon:

DVD

Blu-Ray

Doing a side-by-side compare I'd say that the Blu-ray contains all the supplements present on the current R1 Special Edition from WB.

However, the Blu-ray version of The Patriot does not fare quite so well against the special edition DVD, dropping the deleted scenes, photo galleries and the audio commentary.

DVD

Blu-ray
Blu-ray.com Review

I suppose it comes down to how valuable the supplements are as compared to the upgrade in picture and audio quality.
