First off - I love this film. What a shame that it was not given any special treatment whatsoever in it's transfer to Blu-Ray.
Don't get me wrong - I am happy to have it on digital media (aside from the laser disc I had years ago) - but to be honest with you - the laser disc had a better looking picture. I tis almost as if they took a 20 year old print, that had been played in theatres over and over again - and put it on blu-ray media - Pardon me - while I go and cry... |

What is the problem with the transfer? Not trying to be sarcastic, at all, just want more specific info.

Thank you. I had this pre-ordered, but decided to give it a wait because of the hefty price tag. My suspicions were right. I won't be picking this one up any time soon. It's funny how Echo Bridge can deliver a B movie with better results at less than $10...

OK - off the phone with City Lights. The person I spoke to agreed that they had also been a bit disappointed when they viewed it. This person also told me that City Lights had received alot of good feedback and that the people who did the transfer believed the artifacts that we see to be good for the film (I don't agree).
So, I suppose, bottom line - if you love the film - it is worth having on digital media (maybe the SD DVD will be cheaper - and upconverted will do) - otherwise just rent it to see what all the uproar is about (and WILL BE as people start receiving their copies) |

![]() Wasn't that wild about the film before (long ago memory from when it first came out), so was only slightly interested in maybe getting it some day. Guess not. |

Just called.
Same reply "That was what the producer choose". So it seems like they have a reserved explanation now. ![]() I asked about the upcoming non-amazon exclusive release of it and all the technical aspects will remain the same. So all in all I'm highly disappointed with the transfer. Apparently CityLights idea of a remastering is to pick and choose how much dirt/scratches they think adds to the film's atmosphere.. |
