I saw Raging bull and Passion at my local Best Buy. I didn't pick it up though because I didn't know if the quality was any good.

I am more interested in RB for sure.

There is a site that has reviews up of both, but you have to think about old disc technology and an animal that builds dams to find them.

I absolutely agree. In addition to that, remember that
[Show spoiler]a small sequence in Raging Bull is in color -- the LaMotta's home movies.

I bought Raging Bull today. I probably won't watch it until tomorrow.

I previewed Raging Bull tonight. I am going to watch it over the weekend. I was curious because there is not much information about this movie regarding PQ/AQ. I must say that Fox/MGM did a great job with the Blu-ray. It looks great and sounds very good (just not much of audiophile type of movie). The average bitrate is over 30 Mbps. The master looks to be in good shape.

Now let’s see if the professional reviewers agree.

picked up raging bull today and couldnt get it in my PS3 fast enough. I've recently got real into boxing and my roomate was showing me this movie on DVD, though I didn't have time to watch it. Couple days later I saw that it was coming out on BD and just had to blind buy. Even my roomate who's a huge fan of the film watched it with me and said how better the picture quality is. Had to turn up my reciever a bit to hear some of the dialog, don't know if that's purpose or SQ.

The bluray.com reviewer agrees. Says it sounds great, but it needs more volume and if you look at his audio setup you'll understand he has no problems with volume.

Default Raging Bull PQ question- disc or my set?

Have a question. While I'm sure my set isn't completely evenly backlit, I saw a thick vertical band or line on the right side of the screen. It's a lighter color than everything else, and is very uniform in thickness and shape. This occurred during dark scenes, such as fights where the background was all black. It occurred throughout the movie, though wasn't visible in some scenes.

I'm wondering if it's because the simple background made it easy to see, or if it's a factor of the film itself. Has anyone else seen this flick and can comment on this?

I'm not sure if it's my set because I can't seem to duplicate this on anything else. I'm going to try popping in some other discs to see if I can't narrow this down. I honestly can't imagine it being a disc issue, but so far that's what it seems to be. I hope my set isn't going bad.

Beginning to think it was the flick. Couldn't duplicate it on cable, an empty channel (no signal) or another BD (threw in Payback). What's weird is that no one else thus far has reported it in their reviews.

I would think if it was in my setup I'd be able to easily duplicate it with a dark movie- it was about an inch and a half wide and perfectly straight.

Anyone else seen the movie and can comment?

I figured, or one of the reviews would've said it. WTF could it be? I can't get it to come up with a different movie.

Same with me. I watched the movie on Blu-ray and downloaded an HD version off the PS3 Store not to long ago.

Interesting! Bad disc run or just have our settings "light" enough to see it?

I have this sitting in my living room but haven't watched it yet. I'm curious about this—vertical lines of various types aren't very uncommon things to show up on film, but I'd think it's pretty rare for it to be there for an entire movie. If you had to guess, does it look more digital or, uh, filmy? Does it have soft or sharp borders, does it seem rock-solid or is it "busy" around the edges, that kind of thing.

well its not really a line, more like a stripe that was about an inch or two wide on my 42" screen... like a white stripe at maybe 10-15% opacity... it didnt show up in every scene, but it was there off and on throughout the movie. I figured it was something inherent in the original negative, but I havent checked my older standard DVD to see if its there as well.

I noticed it on mine as well, but only in a few scenes. It didn't really bother me that much though.

Default Raging Bull defect?

I've bought two copies of the Raging Bull blu-ray, from two different sellers, and both of them are defective -- they both play the menu, but when you press play, or any button at all really, it just kicks back to the menu. Has anyone else had this problem? Has the manufacturer said anything about it?
