On the backburner for me. Too much coming out in March I'm more interested in but I want to get to this when I have a lull (but not sure when that will be).

Good to read the quality is very very good.

Josh, What player do you use? Ralph @ avs says his Panny Bd55 won't play Bolt.

Getting this the first week of release, I saw it in theater and loved it, the PQ should be amazing on BD

That is correct. My Panny BD-35 wouldn't play it. I had to use my PS3.

Saw an ad on TV yesterday, apparently this is dropping Sunday?!
Thankfully I'm off and will probably pick it up on release day!
What an expensive weekend, Bolt, pinocchio, resident evil 5. Geesh...
Glad I took a vacation week next week, may actually have time to enjoy some of this stuff!

Hmmm. Everything I've thrown at the Magnavox 530 BD player I recently bought has worked so far. Maybe I'll rent this asap just to satisfy my curiousity if this will work.

I was actually surprised it didn't work on the Panny, being that Disney and Panny work so close on BD stuff. But yeah, just fired up the PS3 and it worked without a hitch.

Just in case it doesn't get fix, the disc actually starts playing, will go through the trailers, show the loading screen, and then when its about to go to the main menu - stops. As if you had hit the stop button.

BOLT plays fine on a Samsung BD-P2500 and it plays fine on a Panny BD55 with 1.5 firmware. Only watched about 20 minutes of it but definitely made it to and through the menu. Upgrading to 1.7 now... OK, now it fails, same way Josh described.

I'll contact Panasonic.

Has Disney ever made a great 3D animated film? I, personally, would never expect Pixar quality from anyone other than Pixar.

If it's on par with Chicken Little or Meet the Robinsons I'll be happy though.

I was running v1.6 and it failed, and the I updated to v1.7 and it failed. Interesting that it worked on v1.5. They must have done something during that update to piss off the BD-Java. Knowing Panasonic, they'll have it fixed in no time.

I'd say its on par or a little bit better than Meet the Robinsons. As long as you don't go in hoping to find Pixar, you'll be satisfied.

Well there is a work-around suggested by Dave over on avsforum and I confirmed that it works. Unplug the network cable before loading the disc, and it will load the menu properly (with no BD-Live obviously). So it looks like it is definitely a BD-Live thing when the disc is checking your network connection to see if it should enable the BD-Live features. People who don't connect their player to the internet will probably never even notice the problem.

Unfortunately the Panny guys in Japan were unable to reproduce the problem today using their pre-release copy. Hopefully they can get the final production copy soon so they can repro (and fix) it quickly.

Wouldn't that hold true with the PS3 also? Why did it work on those units (unless they weren't connected perhaps).

I'm not sure what you're asking. The PS3 and Samsung BD-P2500 that I tested on had network connections and the BOLT menu loaded properly. Whatever is causing the Panny players to fail was something unique to Panasonic that changed in their firmware from v1.5 to v1.6 and is still failing in v1.7.

I'm sure they'll get it sorted out soon. Good thing so many reviewers own Panasonic players so we get to beta test the new titles before the street dates.
