Same model as what? This been on sale here (CA$999) for six weeks. The only other model in North America is the BDP-HD1 Elite player (US$1499).

The models in the OP are defined to be Q4 releases.

So, this is not at all interesting?

P.S. With that said, I would like to request from the OP of this thread to add Blu-ray products that include those outside the American market.

For example, here in Asia and Europe, we have a BDP-S1E, which is an enhanced version of the already available BDP-S1 sold in North and South America. The BDP-S1E has HDMI 1.3, 24fps, CD-playback, multi channel analog and digital outs and 7.1 LPCM playback support.

Maybe the new models have a Special thing or maybe a Miss Universe inside...

I know this is kind of minor, but FYI, the list isn't formatted properly in firefox (at least not for me with default font settings), but does appears ok in explorer.

I still have not seen anything that proves that the 2 new Sammys (2400 and 5000) will internally decode DTS HDMA.

Does someone have proof of this please?

And the Sony BDPS1, and the BDPS300 (1.2) do not have HDMI 1.3.

Actualy the BDP-S300 has HDMI 1.1.

So I'll probably take it the S1 is the same for the US model, but the S1 got upgraded for the later UK launch. So that stays 1.3.

Didn't the Panasonic just get DTS-MA streaming FW upgrade? This is only possible over HDMI 1.3 is it not?

I think it was the early US Panny that was 1.2, the UK version got upgraded and given the A.

Press release says the forthcoming Marantz will decode True HD and DTS HD MA:

"In addition to high quality video, the player offers High Resolution HD Audio with decoding of Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby True HD and DTS-HD Master Audio"

The listing in the OP on the Sammy 1400 is somewhat unclear. The 1400 is reported to decode True HD, while the new DTS HD MA capability is, indeed, bitstream only.

I am wondering why you are guessing that the 2400 will be 1.0 and the 5000 will be 2.0 since they use the same chip. I would think we would be better served with N/A like the emedia list does until there is firm data.

The list says the PS3 is profile 1.0 as a Blu-ray player and the HDMI is 1.3.

As far as I know, the PS3 has had a profile 1.3 HDMI in it sinch launch. It is also highly believed that the PS3 should be upgradable to Blu-ray profile 1.1 when that is released. Probably 2.0 also.

I am guessing because there is no player, no PiP disc's and no 1.1 or 2.0 announcement.

But I've changed the list with the 5000 and 2400 now showing the minimum 1.1 spec because we know the 7440 chip has a dual decoder.

I just called Panasonic, and the tech told me that the 2.3 firmware upgrade made the player HDMI 1.3 but it did not address DTS-MA, just TrueHD and DTS-HD.

Heres some info I found from audioholics...

HDMI 1.3a supports output of Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio streams for external decoding by AV receivers. TrueHD and DTS-HD are lossless audio codec formats used on HD DVDs and Blu-ray Discs. If the disc player can decode these streams into uncompressed audio, then HDMI 1.3 is not necessary, as all versions of HDMI can transport uncompressed audio.

There are two major benefits claimed for HDMI 1.3 audio. First, automatic lip sync compensation, and second, support for direct carriage of the new, higher resolution audio formats such as Dolby TrueHD and DTS HD Master Audio Lossless.

With this being said, I would think that IF the firmware upgrade made it 1.3 then it addressed DTS-MA.

After reading somewhere that the panny was not HDMI 1.3, I asked the question in another thread if it could be upgraded to 1.3 with a firmware update. I was told no it couldn't cause HDMI is hard coded chips.

My next question is.... How could someone physically test this to see what is right?

The Blu-ray player is HDMI 1.2A compliant.

The firmware 2.3 does not give the unit DTS-MA capability. The 2.3
address playability and stability. 2.2 addressed playability and
stability
& DTS-HD Playback Enhanced.

I've changed the Panny to 1.2a and DTS-HR decoding and the Sharp gets True-HD decoding.
