Great! And now all they need to do is to add profile 1.1 support in the next firmware upgrade to make this a real killer...

It says "Advanced Digital Out" for DTS-MA instead of "Transmission over HDMI Interface" like it does for TrueHD. What is the difference?

I suspect that it may just be pulling the core from DTS-MA.

And according to the German home cinema magazine "Heimkino" the European BD-P1400 is according to Samsung Germany a Profile 1.1 player! I hope that´s right! Still one argument less to the "Reds", because the new Toshiba Players EP30/35 aren´t cheaper in Europe than the new Samsung!

No, several AVS members like joerod and madpoet are reporting that DTS-HD MA is indicated on their receiver's front display.

I think Samsung is making a distinction in the language because TrueHD can either be decoded in the player as PCM or passed out as undecoded bitstream, and both are transmitted over HDMI interface. OTOH, DTS-HD MA cannot be decoded in the player, so the only thing left is digital output.

Samsung's website says "BD Profile: 1" and that the ethernet port is "for SW Upgrade only."

Yeah, because a firmware upgrade hasn't turned it on yet would be my guess

PS3 can't it have HDMI 1.3 LITE chip as a Transmitter so it can't send Bitstream (HDMI 1.3 LIte is complete Video Wise but can't transmit Audio in Bitstream (Next gen codec))

BUT, PS3 could decode those in PCM... witch should do the same exact thing...

This is good news for sure, but does anybody know if the 3rd gen Sammy players (BDP-1400, BDP-2400) can decode True HD and DTS-HD MA and output it as PCM via HDMI, or only pass them as bitstreams?

Thanks.

1400

TRUE-HD <= decode
DTSHD-MA <= bitstream (need to apply 9/18 firmware patch)

2400

TRUE-HD <= decode
DTSHD-MA <= decode (following firmware patch after product launch)

At least that's what i got from reading the Samsung spec sheets and info from AVS.

I have a BD-P1400 player and an Onkyo SR-805 receiver and I have tested several movies with True-HD and a movie with DTS-HD MA, in PCM and Bitstream mode.

* The player can decode True-HD and transmit it in via PCM and Bitstream.
* The player can decode DTS HD-MA and transmit it via Bitstream but it won't transmit it via PCM mode

I saw a few reports on AVS which suggested:
1. the player seemed noisy when the disk is spinning (not fan noise)
2. some disks were not loading

What is your initial impression. Confirm/deny?

Sounds like you guys with the Samsung players need to crack those Fox titles again. X-Men 3 comes to mind.

Nope that is just what DTS calls it.

Man, you guys have got me all excited now. The BD-P1400 is one I've been looking at if the PS3 doesn't get the update it needs to make it work. I'm not sure if the HDMI connection is 1.3 compliant or not, or if it can be with a firmware update. If this is a limiting factor, I'll be eyeing the 1400 or 2400 (the HQV processing sounds awesome) for sure.

Thanks guys for your wisdom and knowledge. This site rocks for research!
