Confirmed: Samsung BD-P2500/BD-P2550 for the fall (in stock now)

The French magazine Les années laser has revealed that Samsung will launch a new Blu-ray player in September.

Main characteristics: BD-Live "ready", 7.1 analog audio outputs, Silicon Optix (HQV/Reon VX) video processing chip.

Price will be €449.

Samsung BD-P2550 Blu-ray player (Region A)
Samsung BD-P2500 Blu-ray player (Region B)

I wish more standalone players had the Silicon Optix video processing chips.. For what Panasonic charges for their players, they should have them for sure...

This raises an interesting question I wanted to ask (perhaps new-thread worthy?)

I would imagine that differences between players (other than profiles, codecs, features, etc) would be PQ and it would tend to follow the capabilities of the video processing chip. It appears most of the players on the market are using the Sigma video processing chip (including current Samsung). The Panasonic players use the Uniphier video processing chip, (which I understand is made by Panasonic.)

What are the differences in performance/quality between these video processors? HD? SD?

Most Blu-ray look alike in BD mode because there's nothing really going on unless it's doing 60fps convertion (3:2) for none 24fps compatible TV. Or in very rare case the processor do a 1080i to 1080p convertion when the movie is in 1080i

On the SD point, each company have their solution. The BD30 is okay but it's crappy in 1080i VIDEO matérial, like the Making Of of Cloverfield for example. Reon is one of the best 480i and 1080i deinterlacer on the market. Does is worth the money they charge for ... depend on the price. If the BD1500 is 299$ by Xmas and the 2500 is release at 600-700$ then i don't think so..

This player was scheduled to come out late last Fall> It was advertised on Onecall.com as a pre-order but then it was taken off the site. And then there was a thread on Samsungs web site that it was not going to be produced. I wonder now since HD DVD is dead they have decided to have an upgraded player (higher end). The price on the Onecall site I believe was $699 at the time. It may be less now if it is brought back.

That was the 2400, not the 2500.

The most recent Samsung (BD-P1500) uses the Broadcom solution.

This could be the player Samsung redeems themselves with... assuming it actually delivers as promised.

Also, this should be the player to put an end to the "I won't buy a BD player they can do everything the XA2 could do" nonsense. This player will have every feature, will have the same upscaling, and won't be too ridiculous in price. As an added bonus, it will play discs on a format that isn't dead and buried, which personally I think is more important than any other "feature."

For those that won't buy until there's a Profile 5.0 player that cooks you breakfast and does the laundry available for under $100, those people can stick with DVD.

Best Buy has it in stock, with the model number BD-P2550. Price is $499.99

The manual is also available here, with both model numbers printed on the cover page.

It seems it does not decode DTS-MA.

It may, but I don't see DTS HD MA as a compatible disc format on page 10. Hopefully, a new owner will clear this up today!

And then there was a thread on Samsungs web site that it was not going to be produced. I wonder now since HD DVD is dead they have decided to have an upgraded player (higher end).
