Canada Walmart BD prices and stock Canada and US

I haven't bought many BDs from Walmart, but I usually check out their department anyway. In the past summer, I picked up a few titles either at under CAD $12 or that mysterious $14.83 price that WM likes.

This week, I was in WM Scarborough ON and noticed that their large aisle display for BDs is gone (the one with the promotional BD film playing), the cheap sale prices are gone, and all BDs are now behind a locked glass display case. I guess there is a theft issue. But for me, and I think some others, this completely cuts out browsing. Add to this that the prices are all back up to mid-20s and low 30s, and I'm not sure I'll be checking out Walmart any time soon. What's others' experience at WM. Have things changed elsewhere?

On a different note, I was traveling this summer in rural northeastern US states. Walmarts there were disappointing, too, in that they were only carrying small sections of "Recent Release Blu-ray". I visited no less than 6 stores between upstate NY, Vermont, and New Hampshire. All looked the same.

At Walmart in Mississauga (near Toronto) they seem to have dropped the approach of putting all Blu-rays together.

They are now mixed in with the regular DVDs. To me, that sounds like Blu-ray has become more mainstream.

Australia:
I haven't walked into my video library (VideoEzy) in a while, but it was great to see that the Blu-Ray wall has doubled in size and they are starting to clear the DVD section
Also I work at Kmart too, and the DVD section is alot smaller as everything has been moved around and the Blu-ray wall has been made bigger.

This X-mas oughta be awesome for Blu and PS3.

Went to a Walmart today to see if they had Silverado for $14.99. The store had a pathetic end-cap as the BR section. Of the 20-25 titles, 2 or 3 were mark $10.99 and the rest were $29.99.

I'm sure this Walmart doesn't have a bigger section because no one is buying blu-ray, but no one is buying blu-rays because they are $30. Its a vicious circle. And only blu-ray is suffering.

Needless to say, they didn't have Silverado much less on sale.

That sums up my local Walmart too.

Best Buy, just around the corner, blows it away. There's a great selection but, usually, crappy prices.

I just finally got a blue ray player two weeks ago. Bought two blue ray discs at at the same time at best buy. then went onto amazon and found them for half the price with free shipping. Oh well, at least I got to use the player right away. And I did get a good deal on the player.

Welcome. Just one note - it's actually Blu-ray, not blue ray.

That's why I'm loving the Amazon app on iPhone - when I'm in a store I can check the Amazon price, and if it's substantially lower I can wait it out and order it.

Holland

Hi all,

I live in the Netherlands and have been following the forum for about 2 years now.
To me personally, the benchmark for blu-ray being 'mainstream' has been discount supermarkets carrying the format.
Today I visited my local Aldi, a major discount supermarket in my country. I was very pleased to find, for the first time, about 5 different BD titles in a rack, casually mixed with sd dvds. In my enthousiasm however, I have failed to remember which titles they were. prices were around € 10.

Although I never posted on this forum before I have always enjoyed reading it, especially during the "war". To all administrators and members, thank you for supporting the best home video format ever in existence. I consider it now mainstream and will celebrate tonight.
