Default Mikkeli's dedicated HT

Here's my build blog for my first HT. My theater is completely separated from living area, it has only one door which leads to outdoors. There is stairs to upstairs in right/back corner of the HT. Upstairs is going to be home office with media storage.

Originally this area had only one floor and it was garage. Previous owner of the house was goldsmith who worked at home. During this time garage got upper floor and was transformed to 2-floor working area for goldsmith. Now it's going to be completely rebuild to dedicated home theater.

Here are some pictures of this project so far:

October 11th 2009

Here is some "before" pictures:

Picture taken from entrance. Radiator, sinks and fluorescent lamps are going to be removed.

Picture taken from screen wall. Here you can see where garage doors used to be.

All windows are going to be covered under new wall material.

October 24th 2009

Radiator and sinks removed. Also some old electric cables removed and that old fuse box is next on the list.
Future home office is also under construction. All septums removed. Also wooden wall panels need to be removed.
Some work for new walls and electrics is already done.

March 16th 2010

Stairs removed and some work done for walls.

Some of the numerous cables running through theater.

HT is equipped with "central vacuum system".

March 17th 2010

Iron mounting installed.

March 18th 2010

Water pipe installed for heating purposes. 100 m in total.

March 21st 2010

New concrete floor added 80 mm.

March 24th 2010

Glass wool added to walls.

Projector mount.

Projector mount installed.

March 25th 2010

Supporting pillars and some new wall panel installed (Halltex Taika 04).

March 26th 2010

Ecophon acoustic ceiling needs some rails.

Laser for wall ceiling installation.

Close-up of rail installation.

Some Sombra A panels and halogen spots installed.

More ceiling rail system.

March 29th 2010

First group of spots in action.

Pillars are grinded and ready for some black stain.

Great set-up indeed Mikael . Are you bringing in media from your PC via wireless through the PS3? How long until you're popping in the flicks?

Thank you all for your kind words!

There will be both wireless/wired connection between theater and home office with PC server <-> PS3 & Popcorn Hour.

I have to wait several weeks before new concrete floor is completely dry and new floor material can be installed. During these weeks HT "should" be completed otherwise.

Little progress today, concrete floor is getting dry so we finally added HomeTheater to central water heating system.

I'm currently modifying stairs and installing LED steplights. I'll add some pictures later.

Here is some fresh pictures. Cork flooring is nearly complete and stairs are ready to be installed (needs some finishing). Room is currently VERY dusty so it looks horrible. Better pictures later...

Overall look from entrance.

Photo taken from screen wall.

Close-up of LED-light installation.

"Some" cables required for step-lights. All lights in HT will be remote controlled.

Again some fresh pictures. This is my "FIFA World Cup 2010 setup":

Pictures taken before i "installed" my AV-receiver, HD set-top box & PS3. AV equipment is just lying on the floor, custom built AV stand is coming in september...

Pictures are dark but so is my HT. Contrast is incredible to our midnight sun during this time of year. Sunshine 24 hrs per day Rosenut finish on all speakers was spot-on choice, at least in my opinion. AV stand is getting also rosenut finishing.

Hi and welcome to Blu-ray Forum! No i don't live in Mikkeli but somewhere "nearby" Jyväskylä.

Thank you for your feedback. Soon it is time for photoshoot of completed HT. Still waiting for my custom made AV-stand. HT is in everyday use already and it rocks

Uploaded old pictures again (this time to blu-ray.com).

Updated list of AV-gear (bold is updated, red are coming soon):

108" Multibrackets fixed frame screen
JVC DLA-HD350-B projector -> JVC DLA-X35-B projector
Harman Kardon AVR255 AV-receiver -> Yamaha RX-V771 AV-receiver -> Marantz SR7010 AV-receiver
Marantz MM7025 power amplifier
7.1 system from SVS in rosenut finish:
- MTS-01 main speakers
- MCS-01 center
- MBS-01 for side & rear surround
- PB13-Ultra subwoofer
SVS Ultra Surround (black oak)
KEF Ci200RR-THX
Oppo BDP-83 region free
Sony BDP-S480 (for 3D movies)
Toshiba HD-DVD
Playstation 3
HDTV set top box
Popcorn Hour A-110 -> HDI Dune Duo
+ smaller pieces (PS3 remote adapter, remote adapter for lights, Gigabit ethernet switch...)

HT is getting next big update, Dolby Atmos. Setup will be 9.1.2 (pair of MBS-01 speakers moving to front wide position, Ultra Surrounds will be new side speakers and KEF speakers will be in top front position).

Marantz SR7010 has only 9 amplifier channels, so i had to add Marantz MM7025 power amplifier for main speakers.
