Those are some nice looking speakers! How do they sound? Did you get a sub & surrounds with them?

Those really are very, very nice DLS! I think some experimentation with placement and upgraded speaker cable could be a nice added benefit to maximize their sound.

Thanks guys.. I'm really loving them so far. I will be using my old surrounds still for now. I am looking at getting four ADP 590s when I move so I can wall mount the sides too. Or maybe even a pair of ADP 590's(sides) and a pair of Studio 20's(rears) . Whatever I've got in this house is good for now including the subs. The room is not that big so everything's sounds just right for movies - and for music it's just the Studio 100's and they don't need a sub!

John I don't have much play room for speaker distances for spreading them apart but I have already experimented with different angles of toe in and no toe in from different seating positions and so far what I've got it at - slight toe in - almost straight sounds best. I've also got the fronts 16 inches from the wall and it sounds good I just can't move it out too much further cuz then it will be a perfect target for my kids. But I will look into better speaker wires. It sounds good right now but if that will make it even better why not. Any suggestions?

Thanks Jason It really is a difference from the Monitor 11's. I haven't listened to the MA's yet but I've got the address locked into my GPS for my next trip to the city which should be in June. I'll probably call them first to see which lines they actually have in store. Lookin forward to it. Even though I got speakers I love I'm still curious of all other brands. What I noticed about speaker auditioning though is the room does make a big difference - with my Studios and with the Energy's that I had for a month they just sounded better in my home but it could also be I just had more time with it. But I do believe room treatments and being able to play around with placement make a big difference difference. Do you feel the same way about auditioning in store vs the sound at home?

I never had the opportunity to audition in home. That said I have found that the speakers do sound slightly different now that I have them at home. I love everything about them, they just sound a bit different. I do wish I had the McIntosh amp they were driving them with though!!!! The only time I hear strain is at ear bleeding levels, but it still leaves you craving that extra inch you are missing.

I think you will love the Monitors. I haven't heard the Gold series, but I am sure they are great! I did an A/B with the Paradigm Monitor 9s and chose the Monitor Audios.

Didn't sound as good as this setup I demoed there though!

Wow S8's huh? My wife would never let that slide no matter how good they look or sound. If I upgraded to those everything else would have to be upgraded just to keep up with them. I heard the beryllium tweeters really are something else. I would like to hear them too but they didn't have them.

Took a quick pic of my work in progress. It's my humble little set up at the moment.
Not a very good photo though.
I had to move a few things around to fit in the center. I may move the 360 back down in the middle but I am unsure at the moment.

Hi DLS,

Right now I'm using some Ultralink Matrix2 - MTP12 speaker wire (Banana on receiver end and spades on speaker end). They can be had for under $100 CDN and I would suggest you bi-amp them. Since you have the EMOTIVA XPA-3 and the Yamaha HTR-6190B receiver (same as mine), I think you'll notice a fair bit of improvement in detail by bi-amping.

John

Thanks John for the link and advice. I actually tried reading about bi-amping before I got the speakers and just got so confused over the different things I found on the topic. Just read through this thread and links from it and I'm still a little confused. I know it's probably real simple. Are you using a separate amp with your 6190? If so I would like to know how you have it set up. I still have 40ft of 12AWG monoprice speaker wire that I can try first before upgrading the speaker wire. I just posted a question related to this topic in the thread I linked above so I can carry on the discussion over there.

Thanks again John

Just updated my living room setup a bit. Check out my gallery. I swapped out my Harman Kardon satellites for JBL towers and a much bigger center. I'm glad the reviews I read on these speakers were accurate. These speakers are awesome! Hope you guys like the changes. I sure do!
