Hi,

I am back. I should say i have spend 3 days on this forum and reading all the suggestions almost close to gettting Onkyo 606 and comes the Denon 1909 and some say it has some additional features like the multi EQ that the 2 EQ and also the automatic volume control etc.

I know in this thread a lot of people are satisified with the Onkyo and that is what i am leaning towards as well but can any one suggest why not take a look at the denon 1909? I can look in to spending an extra $150 if need be.

As always any information would be a ton appreciated.

Thanks!

Could you give us a link to the place where you're looking to buy the speakers and your budget in the currency you use?

Nice explanations and break downs.

The other day at work i had to explain to some hardcore "Home Theater Virgins" aka an old couple(70y/o +) about rear wireless HTIB. I made it as simple and clear as possible and they were still confused. "To the main receiver[while pointing to it] you wire in the center channel[pointing to each speaker now], the left speaker that goes on the left side of the tv, the right speaker that goes on the right side, and the sub woofer[set all of it in one group to the side]. After that you put this stuff behind you[creating another group]: The wireless receiver[pointing to] and wire to that the rear left and rear right speakers. I explained it like 4 different times/ways and i could tell they were still confused so finally i got so frustrated i drew them a picture on how they would set it up and finally i think something clicked.

I love helping people create their own home theater but if you can't follow simple instructions, STAY AWAY!

DK,

Thanks for the thread...I'm setting up a new system using your suggestions.

46" Samsung 46A550
Sony S550 player
Onkyo 606 receiver
Polk RM 6750 speakers

I'm getting it in this week, but it will probably have to wait until just after Christmas to set it up.

If you were going to upgrade the speakers, maybe piece by piece, what would be the first piece you'd upgrade? I'm just looking ahead. This question is open to all, not just DK.

Thanks,

Joe

^^^

Center channel first, then left and right fronts, then sub, then surrounds.

I would upgrade the sub first, upgrade the fronts next (phantom center approach with no center), upgrade the center, then finally the surrounds.

Default Need Help with Home Theater Hookup.

Hello, I am new to this site and have enjoyed reading all the help out there. I have a Samsung 42" 1080 that I purchased 4 months ago. I also have a 5 disc Sony DVD home theater system which works great. However, I would like to switch to blu ray. Since my home theater is a dvd/home theater in one unit can I hook up a blue ray to play through the Sony DVD/Home Theater unit so I do not have to buy a new home theater system? I know I could hook up a blue ray directly to the TV but then would I loose the home theater sound and just hear it through the TV speakers?

Confused and not sure what to do? Any and all help would be greatly appreciated!

Got a model # or even better a link to the all-in-one?

If it has an optical input, you can just run optical from the player to the receiver and get lossy 5.1 sound.

If there are inputs on the back of your current set up then you can do it. Just run HDMI from the BD player to the DVD but turn off the HDMI audio in the player. Then run either optical or rca's (depending on what inputs you have) from the BD player to the home theater.

Default non HDMI receiver audio issues

Can anyone give me suggestions. I am trying to connect the audio for a Samsung BD-P1500 to my non-HDMI Onkyo HT-S780 receiver. For video I have connected the DVD player with an HDMI cable directly to the my Samsung flat panel LCD TV.

For audio, I have read the advice about using the multichannel inputs, but my DVD player does not have them. Only optical and 2 channel audio. I have tried using an optical cable from the DVD player to the receiver, but am not getting any sound through the home theater speakers, just the TV's speakers.

I was considering returning the Samsung DVD player to get one with multi-channel inputs.

Go into the menu on your BD player and make sure you are not sending the sound through the HDMI cable (which it sounds like you are).

Default Non HDMI receiver audio issue

Went into the BD player and changed settings from PCM to Bistream, but still no change. Is there another setting that you are referring to?

In my player menu I have the option to mute audio through HDMI so it is sent through the optical or rca outputs.

Since you have optical look for HDMI Audio mute or off setting.

What's the difference between the Onkyo SR505 and SR606? (beside 2 less hdmi inputs)

I'm a virgin and need some help. The great deal @ Accessories4less for the 606 is currently unavailable.
