obscurelabel: I wanted to confirm that the song on the Criteiron disc is indeed "Sweet Georgia Brown" by Brother Bones.

Thank you and have a wonderful weekend

ET: You are welcome. The French title is used as is on the Blu-ray profile for database purposes. All native titles (French, German, Italian, etc) appear as they do in the film's country of origin. But as you point out, if someone is looking for The Brain, the database will pull up both versions with both titles. Have a great weekend, ET

Understood. We always start (international) English name first, unless the film is indeed marketed as Le cerveau. We don't call the film Le cerveau outside France, so The Brain is a common name we use here. Thanks for your reply.

    Hello obscurelabel.
Thank you for your note. I will respond with the info you requested later today.

Hi ETphonehome501. Very good comment. Actually, the film was indeed marketed under different titles in France and internationally - so both Le cerveau and The Brain are indeed accurate titles for the respective markets.

Something else worth pointing out is that the Gaumont and Olive Films releases contain the original French-language version of the film. There is also an official English-language version, which was released on the home video market in the U.S. some years ago.

In your review of the French BD release Le cerveau, you mostly refer to The Brain as a subject and an English title, which I think is preferable over the original title. The English title is especially primary for an Olive Films BD release. It made me think The Brain and Le cerveau are two separate films when Le cerveau was featured on the site's main page. It's just confusing when people are searching for "The Brain", if the English title is an alternative for the French edition and a parent movie profile (where the original title is a primary). People who never have heard of the film are unfamiliar with the original title.

Dr. Atanasov, would it be possible to indicate in your review of Medium Cool which music is used during the roller derby scene? The theatrical version and the original VHS version used "Merry Go Round" by Wild Man Fischer. A lawsuit over the rights to the song led to it being replaced with "Sweet Georgia Brown" by Brother Bones on subsequent home video releases.

The scene isn't a crucial one and I could consider that the replacement song might actually work better, but I am interested in knowing whether Criterion were able to resolve the rights issue with Frank Zappa's estate and reinstate the original song.

    Thanks
