    Martin:

First off thank you so much for the UK 3D Blu-ray reviews! Iím a big supporter of 3D and itís a damn shame itís fading away in the states. Itís awesome to know there are people out there like you willing to give insight to 3D enthusiasts.

I saw you mention in response to another reviewerís message to let you know if we have any requests for UK 3D Blu-ray reviews. I hope Iím not jumping too far here but is there any way you could get your hands on the UK 3D Blu-ray of Despicable Me 3 to review? I enjoyed the film and didnít get the chance to see it theatrically in 3D so I was curious to know whether or not the added dimension does the film justice. I completely understand if you are unable too I just figured no harm in asking

    Thank you!

Thanks for reviewing "Pirates of the Caribbean: Salazar's Revenge 3D Blu-ray". If you think that you have any influence on Disney, please inform them some of us are very unhappy with there current lack of 3D releases in the states.
    Thanks.

Hi! Another thank you for reviewing the region free 3d imports. I've been getting them this way for quite awhile now. Nice to see a review on them.

Also wanted to thank you for the foreign 3D blu ray reviews. There are plenty more out there.

Just wanted to say thanks for reviewing some 3D titles, particularly the UK imports of Thor Ragnarok and Big Hero 6. It has been very few and far between for 3D reviews on the site as of late and I appreciate your taking the time to do some. 3D tvs may be dead at the moment but 3D content is not.

    "Hot off the presses"

FYI, I'm diligent working with someone in LG Signature support, attempting to make the argument that it is "madness" that LG won't simply post a press release on their web site, indicating what was supposedly said in (what I'll characterize as) some "backdoor conversation" at a conference.

If they'd simply say "it's broken, and we're committing to fix it, for all our affected DolbyVision-capable sets", the rest of us would all sleep much better.

Anyway, looks like this probably is why your Downsizing disk looked so awful.

You are definitely welcome. Thanks for listening!!

Yeah... we're all, seemingly, in the same boat, forced to wait for LG and Dolby to sort it all out. I just also had the thought (as a computing guy) that there could be many features (APIs) available to the people rendering the video, and some folks could using some that are not causing problems at the end-point (TV), while others are using more extravagant features that step right in the middle of the buggy code on the far end. It could explain some of the variability, from one film, to another. (Just a WAG.)

Anyway... again, appreciate the discussion. The more folks that get involved in this (and whine about it to LG), the more likely that they'll keep a proper focus on the problem.

    Have a great weekend!

    Hi.
John Archer is the one that I first saw discussing this. Unfortunately, I was limited in my posting space, and had to kill a lot of the initial post. His latest article is here:
    https://www.forbes.com/sites/johnarc.../#5e170547ade4

Bottom line, he is claiming that there are still outstanding issues. In my case, I have a 2016 model, and still don't have any of the updated fixes, so I've not been able to even test this initial fix. I'm probably going to bug LG again on Monday, to try to get a status, 'cause the whole thing seems like a real mess. I would almost be happier to just be able to tell my OPPO to ignore DolbyVision, and handle it as just a HDR10 disk.

It just "smells like" the issues that you are seeing, are more of this same problem, all, of course, IMHO.

Anyway... all for what little it's worth. THANKS for the quick reply!

Howdy. Just needed you to know that some of the problems that you see in the Downsizing 4k disk are actually "not the disk", but your LG set. I would simply suggest you look at this:
    https://www.highdefdigest.com/news/s...k-levels/40738

If you were to toss in the 4K version of Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets, you will see the same bizarre situation where "light" seems to bleed out into what should be jet-black letterboxing.

The good news is as seen on the link above, LG is working on firmware updates. The bad news is that none of us have those yet.

Anyway, you just need to be aware that any Dolby Vision disks that you review, will be messed up (obviously, not just in the letterboxing, but in a variety of unpredictable places, anywhere in the displayed content.

Anyway, I just figured that you would need/want to know, so that you can make note of that in your review.

    Thanks!

    Hey kiski!

Just curious if you could check out something with your Hatchet Blu-ray. Do your special features only take up half of the screen whenever you watch them? My setup is ISF calibrated, but this is really awkward.
