I think the issue is disc size, and wanting to keep it to 2 discs.

And, in general, the reason no extras are included on UHD BDs is because of space:

HD BDs come in at 25GB single layer, 50GB dual layer.
UHD BDs come in at 50GB or 66GB dual layer, 100GB triple layer.

While UHD multiplies each dimension by 2, (1920x1080 x2 both horizontal & vertical), that equals 4x as many pixels. BDs have not increased 4x in capacity, at maximum, 2x. Granted the HEVC/H.265 compression is better and more efficient than H.264, however, disc size becomes a factor for UHD, where formerly, there was plenty of space for most movies and extras at decent bitrates for HD content. So, in this case, it seems apparent, more compression was used in order to fit the content on 2 discs, affecting PQ.

Hi I seen your review about stranger things and how you said it best to just grab the Blu Ray version, I already paid for the 4K + Blu Ray though (hasn't arrived yet). Am I correct in thinking that the Blu Ray has the truehd soundtrack? Like it wouldn't have a different transfer to the standard Blu Ray + DVD set would it?

    Thanks

Hi, I just read your review of Stranger Things and am a little baffled, as, I've read another review that stated the 4K disc presentation looked better than streaming via Netflix.

Also, the BD & UHD should be different, the other review stated that the detail differences were modest, but, noticeable, they also said the color was slightly better, (which it should be as UHD SDR still has 10-bit color over 8-bit for HD), I'm only asking this because I've done it, (I've thought I checked everything and then realized I didn't), you said you checked that the BD was outputting at 1080p, but, what about your TV, did you check all the settings? Did the TV upscale the BD?

    Hi Mr. Liebman,
I just read your review of Stranger Things 4K Disc. There have been a lot of people saying the same thing as you in regards to the 4k not having any HDR encoding. The 1st season was not released on Netflix with HDR/Dolby Vision. If you bring up the title now on Netflix, it says Dolby Vision but that only pertains to Season 2. If you actually watch any episode in season 1, you will see that it is only in 4K, no HDR. The information is sketchy as to wether Season 1 was actually graded with any HDR and it just didn’t make onto Netflix. Since the 2nd season was done in Dolby Vision, the information on Season 1 specs are hard to discern. I thought you should know this as it does affect the review.
I always enjoy your reviews and they give me a good benchmark on wether to make a purchase or not.
    Thank you,
    Frank

FYI in the LEGO NINJAGO MOVIE review, that would be Music Exec Niki Sherrod (not Nikki Sharon) in the commentary track.

Hi Martin. In Laserblast, the green person at the beginning of the movie never screamed. I saw it on TV on HBO in 1981. Andrew

I have seen your new Lion King review, and it appears that you have missed (or failed to note) one visual change from the old Blu-Ray that the forums have gone nuts about - The large cloud formation that Mufasa leaves after his reappearance late in the film has re-appeared (present on the 2003 DVD, but missing on the 2011 Blu-ray). Can you please edit your review to reflect this? (And, if you have time to spare, also note about an audio bug fixed in Pinocchio's Blu-Ray re-release (One line in "Give a Little Whistle" is missing on the old Blu-Ray, but re-appears in the new edition) in its review, since you also wrote it?)
