    My "just joined" status would not allow me to respond to your private message, so I'm leaving my answer here:

    I agree there's something missing when it comes to digital versus 35mm film. Organic grain is a beautiful thing, and I lament that it's passing into history. At the same time, I make my living as a cinematographer who has to keep up with the latest technology.

    My film background has made the transition quite easy. The great thing about the new generation of digital cameras (like RED, Arri Alexa, Sony F65...) is that they record in either "raw" or "log" format. This captures a great deal of latitude from black to white, which can be manipulated in color correction like a film negative. I often refer to these formats as "digital film stocks", and I end up working very much the same way that I would if I were shooting film.
