Yes and I will buy the Megalon Blu in July and probably pick up the bare-bones DAM re-release Blu just in case.

I enjoy all of Fukuda's Godzilla flicks, don't get me wrong. I had just forgotten how campy MG 74 was compared to ToMG.

Top 5 is rock solid. I really like DAM as well, while Astro-Monster plummeted but I still find it enjoyable. There's a pretty sizable gap between it and the bottom 3. The 1st MechaGodzilla film is soooo campy but still fun, just like Fukuda's other 4 films. My appreciation of Megalon really grew when I watched it on DVD. I found one of the unofficially released Media Blasters discs with special features on eBay and they sent me a sealed bare-bones package as a bonus. So cool! I also bought the OOP DAM Media Blasters Blu for a hefty sum but at least it was "only" ~$71.

So basically, there's my top 6, followed by all 5 of Fukuda's films, Astro-Monster, and then the bottom 3 which I'm not a fan of.

Well, if I do see it again, it'll be at home. I rarely go to the cinema anyway.

By the way, the only 3 Showa films I don't like are Godzilla Raids Again, King Kong vs. Godzilla and All Monsters Attack. The rest are all pretty good to awesome-tacular.

That's okay, we can't agree 100% of the time when it comes to Godzilla, just the vast majority of the time.

I'm glad you were able to enjoy the new film. Sadly, that wasn't the case with me, even though I went in wanting to like it.

This article by Steve Ryfle - a name you may be familiar with if you've listened to Godzilla commentaries - definitely dropped the new film even lower in my eyes. Stupid Hollywood.

Well, you already saw my Heisei rankings. Here's my Millennium rankings:

Godzilla, Mothra and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack (2001)
    Godzilla: Final Wars (2004)
    Godzilla vs. Megaguirus (2000)
    Godzilla Against MechaGodzilla (2002)
    Godzilla: Tokyo S.O.S. (2003)
    Godzilla 2000 (1999)

The only two I didn't warm up to are Tokyo SOS and 2000, which are both very boring to me. I've heard the American version of G2K is better but I think I'll wait and find out if the inevitable Sony Blu-ray has both and then just watch them then.

I'm looking into picking up the Gamera trilogy Blu-ray boxset since it seems to be pretty cheap but I still have some Godzilla movies left to rewatch so patience. And I think just the Heisei series unless I really feel like watching the others. I don't want to suffer from kaiju burnout.

I still like Return of Godzilla and possibly Biollante (need to rewatch it to know for sure when my Blu arrives in the mail) more than GMK so I'd say it's probably the best post-80s Godzilla film.

The only significant complaint I have about GMK is that Godzilla waddling around with a beer belly isn't very menacing.

How similar is GMK to the Heisei Gamera trilogy?
