Default The Dark Knight #1

Well seeing that there have been a few threads for opening weekend gross, I'd thought I'd do my own. Basicly, its like every opening weekend thread you've ever seen, you make the decision on how much it will make on its offical US domestic release and maybe a little talk on the movie.

Default The Dark Knight - Will it be #1 ??

http://boxofficemojo.com/alltime/weekends/ , Spider-man 3 is at the top of the weekend gross list of all time, I truly believe that The Dark Knight will top it, anyone else believe that, or am I the only one who believes in Harvey Dent... i mean believes in this movie to make more money than any other? I know that i will be seeing more times than i've seen any other movie in theater (300 = 3 times) and i know i havent seen it yet to know if i'll like it yet, but c'mon, look at that trailer, but i'll be going alot cause im going seperate occasions with many different people, probably even go to the IMAX to see it a few times. I CANT WAIT!!! Any Thoughts??

I think that it will be a very long time before any movie beats Spiderman 3 as many people have been turned off to going to theatres with the increase of movie ticket prices and poor experiences(cell phones). Oh yeah, Blu-Ray will probably be a factor as well as you can just view it at home with great quality.

Though I think that The Dark Knight will do very well at the box office, just I don't think it will pass Spiderman 3 due to the reasons I stated above.

yes i think it will.

remember spiderman 3 w/advertisments and previews is 3 hours long, meaning The Dark Knight might be able to show more times in a day than SM3 giving it an advantage.

Depending on the elasticity of the price of a movie tickets in relation to demand, increased ticket prices might help The Dark Knight greatly in passing SM3 at the box office. It could hurt it too, but I don't think many people are going to say well, if these $8 tickets were only $7 then i would see TDK, but since they are $8 ill wait for the blu or dvd.

The Dark Knight has a chance to beat Spider Man 3, but it will depend on how good the movie is.

I don't know.

But... I hope people aren't going to bring elementary school kids because it's "batman."

When I saw Batman Begins in the theater there was 2 kids behind me that were confused, frightened and bored. They were trilled that it ended and whined about the experience throughout the film.

For those that do venture to a "real" theater to see it... I hope you have better luck.

I think it will bank a lot of money but I do not see it beating Spiderman 3. The Heath Ledger thing is gonna bring in people but it also might have the opposite effect of making people stay away because of it. Batman Begins was a hit but the total US Box Office for that film was on 205 mil. Of course that could be considered part of the bad taste from Batman and Robin, and people not realizing it was a completely different film. Batman fans are out there, but I think it will not stand a chance of beating Spiderman 3. There is also the fact that Spiderman is far more family friendly than Dark Knight will be. Cautious parents will not take their kids to this movie, while they would take them to Spiderman.

Make no mistake, Dark Knight will be huge! But not Spider-Man 3 huge. Domestic will be masive but internationally will be the big failing for this one I imagine. $320'000'000 domestic and probably $215'000'000 international.

That is just a guess though as I really want it to beat the box office of that piece of crap Spidey 3!!!

This will indeed help it to a bigger B.O. than Begins which took $371'000'000 worldwide total. But realistically I don't see even the passing of this fine actor will help it best Spidey 3.

Sorry... I can't help being a realist

Unfortunately I know of people that will specifically not see this movie because of that fact.

Sorry but there just aren't enough Imax's to make that big an impact on Box Office. It'll be an Imax record break i'm sure! but not enough to help the overall B.O.

Like I say I hope it does beat Spidey though. I for one intend to see it many many times!

Spider-man is more for kids so that whole audience dragged their parents to the movies for sp3. I don’t think that will happen for batman, the new look is much darker and does not seem good for kids. I know that my 2 year old nephew loves all super hero movies, it’s the only time hell sit still, mostly the bat man movies. But their are a few parts in begins that scare the crapp out of him. Mostly when batman turns all black and has the stuff coming out of his mouth. He hugs his mom during that part.

Pulled up the link posted in the top of the thread and saw that POTC 2 did 90% of spiderman 3's take. I'm impressed. Neither one is a very good movie (they are both fun and I own both on Blu but they are more "fun" then "good")

I certainly want to see TDK a lot more then I wanted to see either of those.

...??? Who knows. I guess Sony had a big machine to advertise Spiderman 3 (I remember when they had a big spriderman inflate-able crawling up the side of the Metreon in SF. I don't know if such lengths will be gone to for TDK.
