He's not the first troublemaker just trying to get attention...

The best course her is to probably just ignore him and not give him that satisfaction.

Are the 4-Disc Vortex cases thicker than Viva? What about custom multi-disc sets for each film using Vortex since the first two don't carry over any extras from the DVDs sans trailers.

I'm pretty sure there is but it shouldn't be that much of a difference unless someone here can provide some examples. I could do that later on but for now I'm focusing on redesigning/converting box-sets that don't come in regular Blu-ray cases.

So the one you designed would fit in the slipcover or a replacement? Looks nice but if it were me I'd add a space to add the UPC. Well if people have seperate UPCs for the title they could add it later.

Better to stay on topic though.
If I knew how I'd rather make these but more of a retro-style. Yes older posters for titles already on Blu-ray.

Oh, I'm quite on topic thank you! :p

Personally tho, I'd rather make a cover from scratch using other materials rather than based off of a poster, it gives me more of a challenge...

although, the work dv8 did must have been difficult in itself, so I give him top props for it.

It will fit a 4-6 disc Viva Elite case

I bet one of the most difficult thing to do for cover art is to find the fonts. Especially if one wants to recreate the same ones used for the film in question. If it isn't too derivative (spelling off) of the title.
If it were me I wouldn't've used the same font for the BATMAN Anthology for DARK CITY - Director's Cut. I would've chosen the original fonts for these films but kept the same design for the covers. One USA cover I don't like but I do like the UK one, which the latter uses more the film poster, is RED HEAT.
THEN there're the ones where it's very mediocre photoshop. More of the actual from the studios compared to fan work.

Just wanted to say that both you and dv8 do wonderful work. I usually try to discuss covers only at the dedicated cover sites. Lots of people over here don't know the work that goes into making these covers. keep up the good work all you artists!

bpmford 05-31-2011 03:29 PM

Thanks cowboy, I appreciate that...

I agree as a designer myself, that a ton of work goes into custom covers, and so I really have learned to appreciate every artist, no matter the skill level and style... Keep it up everyone!

Well can you send it to me ?

Man, its been awhile since I've been in here... I don't like this arguing stuff... ugh... How bout I just say thanks to all of the custom artists who post their work in here when they don't have to. Its very enjoyable for those of us that do not have your talent to look at, and use when you are so kind... :)

Hey, dv8, whats going on with those toy story and tron covers?

trombone dixie 05-31-2011 07:37 PM

Would anyone be interested in doing the UK edition cover for BOOGIE NIGHTS without the ratings stickers? I'm not particularly fond of the US cover art.

(sorry attachment is huge.)

trombone dixie 05-31-2011 07:44 PM

I'd also like to see someone tackle the rest of the Kubrick Collection with these covers:

It would be cool beans to have thre rest match up with Lolita and Barry Lyndon.

They're not stickers but they're printed on the cover too. Yeah they're distracting but the ones on the front should be easy for a cover artist. How about the reverse of the cover or the spine? The BBFC and IRL ratings logos are on all my UK imports. But I don't mind some of them since I do import.
The AUS and maybe the German ones are more intrusive.
That's a damn nice official cover though.

Haha. I mean't printed ratings. They look as annoying as stickers, that's probably what had me put that. It would be cool to get the US specs on the back cover as well. I'm terrible at this kind of stuff. Otherwise I'd give it a shot myself.

For the USA features to match with the UK back? Would be very interesting to see. The spines for UK releases are in wider-spined Amarays the majority of the time. But damn that'd still be alot of black ink.
