These pen tooled Bond covers are looking mighty familiar, who would have thought of some of those cover compositions?

Another attempt at The Piano.

I feel this is a bit bolder than my previous one. I usually don't make variations on a cover, because I think it's better to just make a decision and stick to it.

They're both available by PM.

BTW, I've been petitioning the mods to make this thread a sticky. Maybe if more people chimed in?

Good Luck, this thread used to be a sticky many many moons ago, but alas was eventually buried... :(

Nissan made some very simple (but beautiful) covers. I quoted his original post, just click on the Spoiler tab to see the artwork.

You might recall dvdmike that I was one of those who said you were doing a fantastic job.

Personally, I have always wanted to see the posters used for the DVD and Blu-ray covers. The 007 poster art has a storied history (there have been several referenced books written on the subject).

The James Bond fan community has been requesting the posters be used for cover art for decades. MGM however has consistently ignored the request and instead unloaded new photoshop creations on the fans, content in the knowledge that the fans will continue to buy the product regardless.

I was happy to see you include poster art in your covers - finally here was someone who was providing what so many had always wanted - the poster art on the covers.

Then, you stopped. It was at that point that I decided that if I was ever going to get the complete set of 007 covers with poster art I needed to get down to working on some of my own. I have been working on getting a template together for over a week now.

Below is an example based on comments and suggestions. Personally I think the photo of Melina and Bond looks a little squashed. Should I cut it and extend the photo next to it to fill up the space?

BTW, I am still hoping you will return. I think the vast majority of the thread thought you were doing a great job.

Yup... and there really was only one or two people that said, Shit sucks, stop doing it! MOST of us really enjoyed DVDMike's work, especially since the links were being posted for them without question! I for one would like to say, even though it doesn't have exactly DVDMIKE's style, this cover looks mighty good DrrnHarr, thank you for posting!

Thanks threefiftyrocket,

I agree, dvdmike was doing an excellent job until a couple of people starting knocking his work. I think the thread as a whole was greatly receptive and positive towards dvdmike's work and effort. I certainly appreciated the work he was doing.

I have been working on this template for sometime and have received a number of very helpful suggestions from a couple of extremely talented and experienced custom cover artists. It's a work in progress. This current version was an attempt to clear up what had became an extremely busy back cover.

Since I started this project I have sought out high resolution poster art for most of the 007 movies and when I could not locate it took high resolution scans of posters in my personal James Bond poster collection. With one exception I have poster art in an at least 3,000 x 3,000 pixel resolution for all the 007 movies just waiting to be worked :)

Darren, this is getting very good. The back is much better now, but if you darken the lines of the gunbarrel a little bit, it won't interfere with the white text it overlaps.

The front poster looks squished to me. Did you tighten it to fit? If so, perhaps you're better off adding something like a banner at the top and bottom to fill out the front, instead of stretching the poster. A banner saying something like "007 collection number 12" on top or bottom wouldn't look out of place.

How about a more adventurous title treatment for FYEO? You did such a good job on Flash Gordon.

As for pictures on the back; quality over quantity.

Yes, these designs are very much like DVDMike's, but you have always been forthright about picking up where he left off. DVDMike didn't abandon the concept, though, he just went underground with it. As such, it could be argued that you are stepping on his toes. Just tread carefully and you'll be okay.

I like your banner idea, though it could limit me when it comes to very thin/tall posters (such as "Octo*****").

I always try and use the original TT style if at all possible. Though it has never (to my knowledge) been in blue (which I eye-dropped from the poster art) it is the same typeset as the original. This was also the case for "Flash Gordon" where I used typeset originally used to publicize the movie.

I am going to jettison the photo of Bond and Melina and rescale the other four.

If these designs are similar to DVDMikes (and looking back there are some significant differences) it is coincidental. I set out to establish a template and have not seen any of DVDMike's efforts since he stopped posting them here.

The posters being used have been around for decades (in the case of FYEO 30 years). The poster art itself is either from a reputable third party or scans of posters in my own personal James Bond poster collection.

I post stuff all over the place, I have for the last 5+ years if not more.
I don't ask for advice so I neither want or expect it, I also don't slate others work.
I still post in other places just not in this thread.
My pair is there don't need to wave it about, I just walk away and have fun elsewhere.
Did I come here for help? nope, a fight? nope, I came to offer my free covers to people who want them.
If you want them then cool, if not leave them.
I am still posting other places, I didn't give up I just don't need this forum.
As for similarities on the Bond covers, I think that the exact cover framing and the way they are cut out with 007 in the background is a bit close to being almost exactly like mine.
