Coming soon - Sword of the Stranger - (Genre: Samurai/action).

I think many anime fans who love action samurai period type of films will dig this. A lot of emphasis on the fight scenes. I interviewed the Director Masahiro Ando although no spoilers, best to read after you watched the film.

out of the ones released on blu so far, what would you recommend ?

I own both final fantasy movies, and afro samurai. I have been eyeballing Paprika and Tekkonkinkreet for a while but was afraid I wouldn't like them enough to warrant the price.

I would consider myself a anime beginner, but I enjoy things like Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo, Akira, Blood - The last Vampire, Vampire Hunter D, Ninja Scroll.

Any suggestions ?

Any idea on whether Death Note might be coming to blu?

Well, I hope VIZ does consider Blu-ray in the near future. I do recommend the DVD Box Sets for now!

There will be a lot of announcements being made two weeks from now at Anime Expo. We'll find out more about upcoming BD releases (knock on wood) by then.

Since you like action-based anime, "Samurai 7" may be up your alley. It's different from the classic film in the sense that it mixes samurai and mecha type storylines together. There are titles I would like to recommend but the price for some of the box sets may be too high for some. Check out the "Batman: Gotham Knight" which is pretty cool (you can find many of these on the trading forum or pre-reviewed at Blockbuster) if you're on a budget.

Speaking of "Blood the Last Vampire", the live action film (in English) just came out in Japan, I hope that one comes out on Blu-ray here in the US!!! Here is the trailer.

Amazon has a release date of August 25th for the Devil May Cry boxset. Has Funimation even officially announced this yet?

I think Japan has the live action movies but don't think the series has any plans as of yet to come out to Blu-ray anytime soon

Okay, I have a question... how is this series? I mean I keep looking for some scenes or somethin to see if I will like it and cant find that much on it. It is supposed to be wicked bloody and gorey... is this the case? Prety much if someone has it can I get a quick blu-review? Thanks.

Hehe..."Shigurui" is one that I find myself having to watch the first two episodes over. It's very violent, gory and umm...interesting sexual elements in the series. The DVD box set comes with a booklet, but for some reason the Blu-ray didn't.

It's an action series that is not going to be for everyone.

I think you will like the upcoming "Sword of the Stranger".

bandit29 06-05-2009 08:42 PM

Sword of the Stranger is great. That one is preordered. Shigurui I've only seen a few episodes. I'll get it eventually.

I want Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex and 2nd Gig on Blu-ray here. I think they are coming out in Japan soon. We can't even get the 3 movie box set released here yet...

Karas has been rumored. The DVDs look & sound incredible.

and where is Princess Mononoke?

If they were smart they would release season 1 and forget season 2 existed.

hardcorefrokid 06-05-2009 11:20 PM

I need Cowboy Bebop, Escaflowne, and Mobile Suit Gundman on Blu and I'll be satisfied.
