"Akira" of course is an older film but Bandai invested heavily to remaster the film and it's the first film on Blu-ray that has a 192 kHz audio track. (I know there is a concert on 192kHz track that someone pointed out in the original Akira thread). Now, as for "Ghost in the Shell 2.0", the audio quality is great but unfortunately there is no lossless track.

But it all comes down to if you are picky about animation. Also, what kind of anime your into. But these titles are solid. Of the four, "Akira" will always be a classic but of the four, the one I really, really enjoyed was the "Freedom" box set.

Exactly! I was just trying to state that a lot of Anime Blu-rays have great PQ. :D

I currently own all the Anime listed on Blu-ray including Street Fighter IV, except for the OOP Bandai releases (Yukikaze, SOS Tokyo Metro Explores, & Wings of Honneamise). Has anyone found a reliable source to buy these from?

Also, do we have an Official statement or link that Basilisk, Blue Gender, Gunslinger Girl, Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles, & Trinity Blood is coming to Blu-ray???

Well there are links but Funimation is holding those series off for who knows how long so basically we need an even newer link but of course Funimation hasn't made any new statments for those series.

As for the older Bandai movies you can go to Amazon for Wings of Honneamise though you are still going to pay over $50 but I haven't seen anything better than that.

Then you should watch the series from Key/Visual Arts with the Kyoto Animation. The art in those movies are so amazing. Well then again I always loved Kyoto Animation's artwork they have done.

I hope Funimation can do something good with Basilisk...the PQ on DVDs weren't that good..

Freedom has been my favorite anime Blu-ray release so far. Excellent PQ/AQ. Good story too. I still have to watch Skycrawlers. I have a love/hate thing with Oshii's style.

Anyone heard anything on Ninja Scroll on BD?

jkwest 06-09-2009 06:12 PM

I really wish Jeff Kliest would chime in every now and then...he was always really good at answering our questions..

maybe go ask down in the Digital Bits thread..he may answer you there.

I'm sure Jeff is reading our messages but I know he'll be at AX (Anime Expo in Los Angeles on July 4th Weekend).

Still not sure if I'm going to make it to the event just yet due to my schedule but we're all highly anticipating announcements in the next few weeks of what's coming out on Blu for anime releases.

bandit29 06-09-2009 08:39 PM

I'd like to see Macross Zero and Macross Frontier released here on Blu...but I'll become a millionaire before that happens lol :(

I posed the question and this was his initial response:

You don't want the current HD master of Ninja Scroll, trust me
so, I asked him to elaborate and he said this:

Ninja Scroll master was done years ago and has virtually no cleanup, nor does Manga have a good clean source to do a new one from. Your best hope is for a US/Japan/Europe collaboration to spend the money on it. The current one also suffers from Manga's trademark "mud" color timing.

The only thing really going for us is that NS is way more popular here than it is in Japan, so they'd be less concerned with protecting the home market. Funimation's Evangelion 1.0 Blu-ray delay and the fact that it's taken GITS 2.0 so long to get here should give you an example of what we're looking at in the future for non Bandai-style distributions.

+1.

And at the risk of sounding greedy, a similar list of the anime BDs available in Japan would be very helpful too. There are plenty of anime titles I would buy direct from Japan, as I expect the lag time before the U.S. release will be more than I can take :ohnoes:

You will never see it thanks to that greedy troll a-hole carl macek

He's not even with the company anymore.

While I'd love too see Harmony Gold go into oblivion, it isn't entirely their fault. Big West (Japanese company that owns Macross) doesn't seem interested in finding a solution to the Macross licensing fiasco either.

Pretty much isn't it because of the way things were licensed back in the 80's. Supposedly one of those "you own it forever" licenses and the problem was the company who did this with Harmony Gold is no longer around and thus this licensing fiasco? I don't know the particulars but I remember being explained about those old licenses for the "Macross" titles.

In a way, I was hoping we would hear a Macross F Blu-ray release in the next few weeks at Anime Expo from Bandai or something. But there is noise of something big being announced. We just don't know what it is yet.

Bandai Visual's the "Super Robot Wars", "Mobile Suit Gundam MS Igloo" and "Haruka Beyond the Stream of Time" DVD's are quite expensive as well. Hopefully Blu's such as "Jin-Roh", Yukikaze and even "Royal Space Force: Wings of Honneamise" may get a re-release because those are quite expensive as well.

A lot of the releases from Bandai Visual before they were merged with Bandai Entertainment went OOP. But everything it seems that came out in the last year and a half have shot up.

Same with ADV's "5 CM Per Second". Wow....It's very expensive now!

ht_skinny 06-10-2009 11:22 PM

FUNimation has announced that "Devil May Cry" will be coming out soon on BD... has anyone seen this? How did you like it, I have played the game, is it true to that?

Kevtronn 06-10-2009 11:32 PM

Full Metal Panic! Second Raid Box Set Blu-ray 44% OFF Pre-order Amazon!

Also, the Devil May Cry Series is based loosely on the games with the characters. Not Bad, worth checking out.

Hey everyone!
Im not sure if this is the right place for this but I recently finished Death Note the anime series on DVD. I loved it. I did some research and know of the Death Note movies on DVDs out and a Japanese Blu ray set of the movies. Anyone know of an up coming US release Blu ray with the US voice actors like in the TV series? I know its out on DVD already. I was curious if anyone got word on a Blu Release.
