On a a positive note though I really like the consistent high quality of the NISA anime BDs so far. At the moment I have bought or preordered all of them apart from Katanagatari (which I will pick up at some point) because they are are always excellent. Their releases are usually my most anticipated and long may it continue. :D

I can tell by your avatar which NISA combo pack you'll be getting next.

Figured this would be the thread to ask.

I recently got the Hong Kong Blu-rays for the first two Patlabor movies. Watched the first one and the subtitles are pretty wonky: sometimes-strange wording and lots of typos. Anybody know what the English subs are like on the Japanese Blu-rays? I assume they're similar to what's on the US DVDs from Bandai/Honneamise.

The subs on the Japanese blu-rays are excellent. I've watched both films and don't remember any errors with the subs at all.

Yeah I can't wait to see the anime, the manga is my current favourite. Hopefully the live action film will get a US BD release at some point also. It's already out in Japan without English subs. I sent NISA an email remarking that I know its not their usual terrain but would they consider releasing the Usagi Drop and Kimi ni Todoke live action films on BD in the US. They sent a reply saying they would forward my email to the relevant department for consideration and advised me to create a thread on their forum for them to see if other people would be interested in it being released. It isnt allowing to me to register on NISAs forum though for some reason so I wont be able to do that but hopefully it will still get a release at some point.

By the way has anyone ordered the Pray For Japan documentary on BD through TRSI? All the proceeds go to Japan Emergency NGO so it is worth picking up if you can afford it with your next order.

Yesterday I received an email from TRSI saying they were still working on my copy of Anohana, has anyone ever had that happened even though I already received it???

I wonder how your's shipped before anyone elses'. Maybe you should check to see if what you got is AnoHana. According to Fandompost, they didn't start shipping until yesterday from TRSI. Anyway, I ordered through animecornerstore.com.

Yeah you are correct, I opened the shipping box to check and it was Kimi ni Todoke V3...forgot I had ordered the 2 together. My copy of Anohana shipped yesterday :D

Yeah no errors at all on any of the three Japanese releases of the Patlabor films

Drag. Oh well. When I'm only paying roughly $13 per movie compared to $67–100, I think I can deal with some poor subtitles, heh. Think I'll take some snapshots of the Blu-ray and DVD subtitles and see if the latter's subs are the same as the JP BDs.

I wish I could see screenshot comparisons between the HK and JP Patlabor BDs. Like I said, the HK one for the first film looks really nice: good amount of grain, strong black levels, etc. Wondering if Panorama licensed the transfer from Bandai or made their own; if the former, I wish they would have done the same with the subs, heh. I didn't notice any windowboxing, though, and if I'm not mistaken, most or all of my Bandai BDs are windowboxed.

Just ordered FMA:B Complete Colection Vol.1 from Amazon. Came to £35 including Expedited Shipping and £5 import tax deposit thingy. Hopefully it doesnt get picked up by customs aso I'll get the £5 back.

I am now the proud owner of my first multi-region Blu-Ray player: an Insignia NS-BRDVD4 for $28.50 shipped off eBay. Time to buy some Region B Blu-Rays!

No release date yet, but it's coming soon. There was a trailer for it in the Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt DVD set.

YES! My friend keeps recommending it to me, so I can finally shut her up pestering me and watch it in 1080p! I heard the DVDs were old and dated transfers, while someone a few pages back linked BD screenshots from another country I believe, and they looked great!

SO EXCITED; Day one!

Excellent News!!! I bet it gets announced for October with Hellsing Ultimate Blu-ray. Still trying to decide if I should let go of my Lain DVDs, they were my very first anime DVDs when I bought my first DVD player so long ago...

I only bought the first volume, so I'll just trade it in at my job or at Amazon.

It's not really comparable to anything. It's been imitated a number of times since though, I'd say Boogiepop Phantom comes closest to it. Ghost Hound sort of reminds me of it a bit as well.

Ergo Proxy, but Lain is considerably better. Oshii's Ghost in the Shell, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Boogiepop Phantom and Paranoia Agent share similar themes and styles; also Puella Magi Madoka Magica for something more recent.

Really can't wait to watch the series again. It was the first fansub I ever downloaded back when I had NetZero before the turn of the century and I had to keep waiting for my bandwidth allotments to keep downloading the show. I got the DVDs and watched it dubbed only once; I sure as hell understood it considerably better that second time. I've already seen the spectacular screencaps from the JP BDs and have to assume we'll be getting the same transfers. Think I'll try proper subs for my third go around.

One of my favorite openings as well:

Zen_Amako 06-29-2012 05:26 AM

Serial Experiments Lain was a show I purchased a volume at a time on laserdisc and subtitled myself using translations I found online. Those were the days. ;). Later I got the limited DVD set with the lunchbox and CD single.

I would like to get this on BD but there's already so much coming out this fall...

TheRev81 06-29-2012 06:02 AM

I guess I'm selling My Lain DVD box then

Amazing news. Now I have to decide whether or not to sell my DVD box set.
