Kanon does have the English subs, actually. Clannad will reportedly have them as well when it's released in the spring.

Well I knew for certain Air doesn't

That's Jason Liebrecht who voices John who you can recognize his voice in Get Backers, Tsukuyomi Moon Phase, Tsubasa, Baldr Force EXE, Dragon Ball Z, and some others I can't remember

The AIR Blu-ray set came out before the US DVDs did, so it's quite possible it would have had the subs if it had come out later. Perhaps they'll re-release it somewhere down the road with subs.

Well the 2006 release has no subtitles at all but the 2008 release has Japanese subtitles. In America Air came out in 2007 to dvd when ADV Films had the original rights to the series before they lost it and Funimation rescued it along with Kanon 2006.

Both releases are the exact same discs, they both have Japanese subtitles.

Picked up Samurai Champloo on Blu. Can't WAIT for Claymore! HD is definitely the way Anime was meant to be seen.

Any word on Tsubasa season 2? I don't wanna watch s.1 until I have 2 in my possession...

Blufan11 01-03-2010 11:32 AM

I'm watching season 1 right now on blu! I hope 2 comes out sooon. Is season 2 even out on regular dvd?

If you mean Tsubasa then yes season 2 is out on dvd and it's had single volumes with like about 4-5 episodes each for 6 volumes for season 2 covering 26 episodes. Just a week or 2 ago season 2 came out as a complete collection boxset with all 6 of those volumes put onto like 3-4 dvds. There's also supposed to be a complete season 1 and 2 collection coming to dvd. Funimation also released the movie and it comes with the xxxHolic movie as well.

The only thing that Funimation didn't license was the OVAs which is how the series ends.

That is sad! Hopefully, Funimation decides to release season 2 of Tsubasa on blu-ray soon.

Tomorrow (Monday) Funimation is suppose to make more announcements, maybe we will get lucky with more blu-rays :)

I'm still debating whether I should get the Samurai Champloo boxset. High Def Digest gave it a 2/5 for video quality. Looking at the screenshots the image does seem soft. Even though its just an upconvert it should still benefit from the higher bitrate, I am just debating whether that is enough to warrant a purchase.

Well the audio is great on both languages and the series is great too so I say that's more then enough reason to buy it.

KillerFocus 01-04-2010 12:25 PM

You have a good point. The series is one of my favorites of all time (I am a huge Watanabe fan) so I guess it's worth picking up.

I agree with Moonphase:
- the series is great
- the audio in both languages is equally great (for which I really aplaud Funimation)
- video is definitely better than the (Japanese rental) DVD's I've seen. If memory serves me well, this series never aired on HDTV and as such, the source material probably doesn't lend itself well to a demo-worthy transfer. My guess is this is the best the series will ever look, safe for a complete remastering of the source material perhaps.

All in all, if you like the series, I think it's worth to get it. It definitely made my 'to buy' list.

So far the only announcement I received from FUNimation today was them acquiring the Kung-Fu Shaw Brothers films (15 of them). If anyone heard any anime on BD news, please post.

Yeah that is all I saw too. At least we might get some of these on blu-ray later down the road.

Just wait for it to drop price, most likely it will and fast

KillerFocus 01-05-2010 05:08 AM

Hopefully it won't take too long for it to drop. I hope I can wait that long :p

Kevtronn 01-05-2010 09:12 PM

UK will get a blu-ray release of Summer Wars in September 2010. I really hope the U.S. will get a release also or that the UK version is region free :D

Can't believe Funi announced more live action movies for today instead of anime. I can't be that surprised since usually their big license events are usually over hyped and bad but this is the worst they have ever had. I really wanted more anime and maybe even K-on on blu-ray.
