Small LCD for xBox 360 gaming?
 

Hi.

Could you guys help suggest a good 1080p screen for me, I don't need it for Blu-ray and it doesn't even need to have speakers it's simply for gaming with my xBox360, and normal dvd playback.

A 32" screen is way to big for me, I would like a small screen 26" (apprx) with 1080p resolution, baring in mind I don't need freeview, terrestrial TV or even audio, couldn't I just use a large PC monitor? are they compatible with xBox 360's?

Failing this what would be a good 26" 1080p TV for gaming?

find yourself a nice PC monitor for it. it should have either VGA or HDMI for best picture quality for your 360. oh, a word to the wise; chill with the xbox discussions lots of pansy fanboys will attact you and ban you for even mentioning the 360. even though it is the better gaming console with a better library and even better online gaming experience.

I have a 19" Toshiba that looks GREAT via HDMI for a second 360 (my wife uses it when we play lan/xbox live games). I'd have to say that I still prefer the HDMI connection or the component connection over VGA - it just looks better....

I don't think they make 1080p tv's at 26" since you can't tell the difference between that and 720p on a tv that small. If this tv is purely for your xbox, then I wouldn't even bother.... the xbox will probably break before you get your moneys worth from the tv.

OP, I used a computer monitor for a while with my 360. They are awesome for gaming. Make sure you get one with a good response time. Don't quote me but I believe TV's measure their response time by the time it takes the pixel to change from black-to-white-to-black and computer monitors measure their from grey-to-white-to-grey. So computer monitors sound amazing when they advertise their response but they are kinda fooling you. Are you going to connect your 360 to your sound system? If not the problem with most computer monitors is there are no speakers.

I'm a PS3 fan, but I play a lot of XBOX with the roommates and such as well... but back to the topic at hand,

There is not much benefit to something at that resolution unless you are using it on a desk you will be seated at, but on that note, LaCie makes some great 24 inch 1920x1200 monitors, but they are professional grade so they'll start around $1200

Viewsonic also makes a 24" 1080P monitor, model VT2430 that can be found online for around $300

I've been doing a lot of research on this as I didn't fully understand LCD moitors, unfortunatly an LCD isn't going to work for me, it's bassically because of the limited viewing angle, I have a large front room in which every body is kind of spread out all over the place, so this means it's going to be difficult for some of us to see what going on, I hadn't thought about that befor I posted.

So, a plasma would be better from this pov, however plasmas arnt without their problems either, for a start my girfriend likes to be up close to the screen (about 1.5 meters). 1080p Plasma's (if I'm correct in thinking) start at 42" which is huge!! and far to big to view up that close, so I'm still at a loss to an extent (plus their pricey as) but there are and will soon be some smaller plasmas comming out soon ish, so by the time I've saved up the money for one there's a good chance that there will be something like a 32" which although wont be 1080p, probably only 720p it's still going to be better than my cheap CRT.

It's a bit of a weird situation, and there are compromises all over the place which I hadn't forseen until I did some research, interesting stuff.

Don't get hung up on stated/average viewing angles. Go out and check for yourself. I just got a Samsung LN32B360 and the viewing angle is damn near 180 degrees. I just tested it. I can stand behind it about 8 feet away (any further and I'd be in the hallway), tilt my head foreward a little and still see an almost perfect picture. I certainly couldn't do that with the LCD it replaced. They're all different.
