Sup Travis? She is beautiful. Enjoy those years, because they go so fast. She is going to change so much in the first few years.

I will try.

What are you up to today?

landry_p2000 05-01-2011 03:35 AM

Watching Weeds season 6 with the wife. Thinking about grilling a couple ribeyes in a few.

Hammie 05-01-2011 04:13 AM

Nice pix, Travis.

Photography is crazy. A must read book is 'Understanding Photography' by Bryan Peterson. It will get you off the Auto settings. I go back and forth between Aperture and Manual settings on my Nikon camera.

And yes, photography can be just as expensive as Home Theater. I have over $10K in camera gear and accessories.

But there is one major difference between this hobby and all the other expensive hobbies I've had, I can enjoy this hobby literally everyday without leaving the house! Another difference is that the whole family can enjoy it too.

Just for perspective, I would drop $2000 on a lens which I will use a few times in a year. And even then I'm not really satisfied with the pictures I took. Not a good return on investment is it? My interest is outdoor photography and I realized that to be a fulfilled outdoor photographer, you'll need lots of time and to some extent money for traveling. Not to mention the very expensive gear for such photography. Something that's more suited for single folks with deep pockets IMO.

Last May my long-time buddy invited me out to Arizona where he lives, as he was planning a 7-day vacation to the ZION National Park in Zion, Utah, & then to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. He does professional photography on the side & has invested some Serious COIN in 2 cameras (both over $2-3000 each, & that's BEFORE their Various Lenses, filters, accessories, etc.), as well as Renting a Major (& MASSIVE!) professional Color canvas printing machine in his home. He goes to different events, sets up his prints, & sells what he can for very affordable prices (compared to what Many others charge for, IMO, not even comparable quality work). He does all the work himself: Photos, printing, framing, etc. (here's his website if anyone's interested: LINK).

Anyway, we had a great time, I took some 7-800 photos over the 6-7 days of camping, hiking, serious sight-seeing, & let me tell you, if any of you have a chance to see some of the USA's National Parks, don't EVER think twice about it. Just do it. Zion National Park is an amazingly Beautiful wonder of nature. Just look thru some of these Galleries from their website. Incredible stuff !

Btw - Great pics of the baby, your dog, & the outdoor shots - I love the one with all those (green) trees. Very nice.

I may. The lily pic I took was with manual focus, the auto wasn't as clear, not a big dif., but a bit. I can see getting more into the manual functions. But for some like dog running nice to have auto.

Not a joke, the book is actually titled Understanding Exposure. It's a must read for anytime who's getting into photography.

I like your dog pics. For the flowers I'm a fan of macro shots. Another lens to add to your arsenal. ;)

Your camera takes some sick pics. I want a new camera, but have a few other things in line first. I won't spend alot on a camera, but enough for a decent one at least. Any news on the projector yet? I am moving at the end of this month, and the new space has a bonus room. Hopefully a projector will be in my set-up by the end of the year. I am going to do some research soon. Do you know of any sites for PJ research?

landry_p2000 05-01-2011 07:21 AM

PT-AE4000U Panasonic projector is only $1599. Seems like a nice one. :)

The site is http://www.projectorpeople.com

Got some nice stuff.

I know about the contrast ratio, but not sure about the lumens.

A lot here I think have the AE4000. Higher the lumens, the more ambient light it can deal with, and not sure what it means as far as black and white levels.

Weekend is almost over. :panic: I still haven't been able to relax. Going crazy. Wife's cousin yesterday, her friend's today. I need a place to get away from everyone and get 24hrs to be alone with my thoughts.

How's stuff with you?

Johnny Vinyl 05-01-2011 10:03 AM

Good evening/morning Travis, Mike!

I'm off to work in a few minutes, but thought I'd drop by and say hello first! Hope all is well with both of you!

I am. Right now, just trying to figure out all the settings. Getting frustrated and may stick with auto settings for say the first year.

What is going on with you?
