Good evening Travis,

So I see you got some great stuff on your shopping trip. Ground beef and Star Trek BD.

Travis 08-21-2011 01:36 PM

Watched Miller's Crossing. The PQ is good, a bit soft at times, but think it was probably filmed that way. Detail and texture are excellent. The overcoat Gabriel Byrne wears looks great, can see every fiber of the fabric. Not a fashion aficionado, but I love being able to see every detail of clothing on a Blu-ray.

The AQ is good, dialogue is really crisp and clear.

3 more and got enough for my leap year. 2012 is the next one.

Cannot believe I already have doubles, though. 2 copies of Gladiator (1st and remastered releases) and 2 copies of Star Trek II.

Just watched the trailer, not my kind of movie. Glad you enjoyed it. Kinda funny you would pay close attention to a coat.

Close up scene and could see every fiber of the coat. It really makes me impressed when you can see that kinda detail.

I love this film, music is great, cast is great, and also has the quirky Cohen Brothers moments. Hands down best movie of theirs. Fargo is a close second.

Well I have liked all of their movies, but the only one I own is O Brother, and my wife bought that one. I'm not a fan of that movie either. I did enjoy all of the other ones with Raising Arizona being my fav one. I even liked The Hudsucker Proxy.

Never seen Hudsucker. Didn't care for O Brother.

Love gangster films. Untouchables, Godfather, Goodfellas, and Miller's Crossing!

Not much. Had to have dinner with a friend of ours, had to drive out to a hotel in the middle of nowhere. Getting ready to give baby a bath now.

You?

Just waking up on a lazy Sunday....queuing up my encode list to continue crushing through my TV season of various shows haha

landry_p2000 08-21-2011 02:25 PM

What's up Travis? Watched Priest, and I enjoyed it. There are a lot of members that bashed this blu, but hell, I liked it. The PQ and AQ were top notch. Very crisp picture, and serious LFE through the entire film. SVS got a workout. :D Maybe you should rent it first, but I blind bought it and I'm not mad at all.

What TV are you watching?

Was looking at some TV shows on DVD at the store yesterday. Need something new. Sopranos are over.:( Sons of Anarchy and Simpsons are taking forever to get here. Two and a Half Men has been over really since 5th season.

Also waiting on 4th season of Dexter to be released here.

Got 1st 2 seasons of Tudors, will get third soon, only 4 seasons. Love Rome, almost a miniseries, just 2 seasons.:(

Saw It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia and Boston Legal in the store, not sure if they are for me. Like Entourage, but nothing I need to own. Heard great things about Arrested Development.

What's the best TV show out there?

Looks like a fun, twisted action film. Sometimes I think the ones who bash it have no idea what they are buying or renting.

Did you like Sucker Punch? I enjoyed it a lot. A comic book brought to life. Could see why some hated it though. But, from the preview they should have known.

Was going to suggest It's Always Sunny...great show!

Nip Tuck is an excellent FX series drama. Don't know if you know anything about it, but its 2 polar opposite plastic surgeons, who are best friends and business partners. The show gets crazier and crazier and the drama is awesome.

Never picked it up. I really never had any interest in it. May have to check it out though. I hardly ever feel like I wasted my money on a blu, but Skyline, oh man, that's was a waste of time. Glad I didn't buy it. From the trailer, it looked pretty bad@$$, but boy was I wrong. Probably one of the biggest loads of crap ever. I have been slow buying blu's lately. If you haven't watched Jonah Hex, IMO, it was pretty good. Worth a rent for sure. I actually got it from Netflix, and then I went out and purchased it. I love westerns.

Seen a little of Nip Tuck. It was okay. Not something I'd buy. Enjoyed renting and watching Lost until the last episode screwed it up.

Will give Sunny in Philly a chance.

What are you watching?

Well I'm watching Sunny In Philly actually. I own all the seasons :D

Did you like Sin City?

Haven't seen Jonah Hex, liked the books when I was younger. Had a few of Hex too. Heard terrible things about that one. Will rent it.

Skyline was the worst movie and waste of time ever.

Loved Sin City and I double dipped on it too. Got the blu and DVD. It was shot mostly in black and white, but I enjoyed that film. Mickey Rourke was a total bad @$$. I also own The Spirit, which reminds me of Sin City.

Sucker Punch reminds me a little of that. Really wacky over the top stuff. Never seen The Spirit. Wish it wasn't time for bed, or I'd put Sin City in the BDP.

JONAH HEX or SKYLINE; which one was the biggest waste of time spent in the cinema     :panic:  JONAH HEX, all 73 minutes
[Show spoiler](<--- I remember timing it in the theaters, as I didn't believe a feature film's run-time could actually really be just 73 mins. It was... :( :banghead: )

B. Empire is a great new HBO Mini-series; the 2nd season is set to start next month, previews look incredible!!

Not everyone hated Jonah Hex. Especially ppl who own subwoofers that can play really low notes. There are at least three scenes in the movie that make you go whoa...what was that?

I'll give it a rent. No so concerned about the LFE, not a bass fiend like some of you. Just got a 10" one. And sub is not that big either.:D

I won't buy a movie just because the AQ and PQ are awesome, I need a great story. Sometimes we get lucky and a movie has all 3 at 5/5, like Daredevil!

Then this movie is not for you. What I am telling you is you probably will not like it. The movie is not that engrossing unless you can experience it. Then it can be a fun ride but a lousy movie. It's a campy movie just like Drive Angry or Zombieland. Some reviews of Drive Angry was the same thing Steve said of JH, "a complete waste of time", but I have watch all three movies twice now.

There is a great story and a great story. I did like Zombieland, and have some movies some don't like, great needs to be entertaining, like The Godfather, Alien, Moon, Zodiac, Shrek, Wolverine, etc. I'll rent Jonah Hex.

My 2 PA-120's may not be hSu's, or SVS's, or EPIK's, but for my size room & how they're calibrated into my system, they perform Quite Well, tyvm. ;)

Wait a second - per your Above post (1st one), you seem like you Like the film, then here you say it's not that engrossing. Which is it? Do we need Massive Subs or 5-Star HT's to enjoy a SUB PAR film that was pretty much torn to shreds by movie goers And critics? I thinketh not, Lord HTG' :p

DRIVE ANGRY I could see where some might not get it, or enjoy it like some of us did. ZOMBIELAND I just finished the other day (I'd only seen the first 25 mins., less than I thought), & it was alright, not bad, not great. 3.5 of 5 for Story/overall movie

I'm not a bass "fiend", but I do enjoy some nice LOW-END in certain movies & if it Fits the scene. Yes, some of the members here may fall into that category, but if the movie is horrid, it's still horrid even w/great AQ.
While some recent :meh: movies might look & sound very good/Great
[Show spoiler](even Spectacular as in :jawdrop: :yikes: )
, if the story is sub par, how many times are you going to re-watch it or recommend it to friends?
