Travis,

Just trying to bring some humor to distract you from your worries. In the end, you'll be great. They never take skids away unless you are a complete irresponsible a-hole.

You'll be fine. Try to sleep as much as you can tonight. Don't they have any OTC meds over there that you can take that will knock you out?

Will enjoy a quiet night with a glass, or two, of scotch.

Mother has been feeding, baby likes her brand, so we don't have to worry about formula. Mother resting uncomfortably as delivery was a c-section. Father is very happy, and confused.

I hope all is going well Travis with your wife and daughter, and that you get some sleep. As far as your AVR......don't worry, you'll set a new record soon enough, and then a new one again after that, and then, etc......:D

All is well with wife and baby. I have already lost the New Father of the Year award. First #2 diaper change. Nurse was showing me how and WOW  what a green-black mess, EVERYWHERE. It was her first; wife said it will be better next time. Anyway, I started gagging. Thought I was gonna throw up. How can a 7 pound baby have a 10 pound crap? It was astonishing on some many levels.

Yep, that first one is the worst, it is what they call macatam (sp?) I believe. It won't be that bad the next time or the time after that, so your wife is right. Soon, it will look more "familar" to you as well. ;) However, it is still going to be a mess and it will still smell, but in some degree, you will "get used to it." You really don't have a choice anyway do you? :) One last thing, when she is "clean", doesn't she smell just incredible? Nothing like the smell of a clean, newborn baby!

Hang in there daddy, and congrats again!

She does smell great. Like.... not sure how to describe it...new baby smell. Speaking of baby, I should be back at the hospital, so mother-in-law can go home. Feel a little useless there, honestly. Baby will nurse, fall asleep while nursing, wake up and nurse again. When she is sleeping comfortably it is hard to move her, just because I want to hold her. Usually when she cries she is just hungry, so I can just transport her from one bed to another if she isn't already with wife.

Yeah, that "useless" feeling will go away. Right now, you are there more for your wife than your daughter. When you get home, you'll have plenty more you can and will do for your daughter. Not sure if your wife will breast feed or not, but if she does, you'll have plenty you can do for your wife and still help your daughter as well. My wife breast feed both kids (and still will occassionally with my son now if he needs it) and there was plenty for me to do.

Yep, she is drinking mommy's milk, and seems to like wife's brand.

phansson 02-24-2011 01:43 PM

She is beautiful Travis, I am sure you are very proud.

That first "pooh" is called "meconium". It is pretty disgusting, but I don't remember it having a bad smell. I just remember it sticking like fly paper glue. That was the 1st diaper I ever changed in my life and was pretty much a cluster. I remember my wife laughing so hard, I thought she was going to bust some stiches from her c-section.....

Keep her on that brand for a year..... it's the best thing you can do for them.....

Pics looks great! They do come out looking like they've been in a fight though... don't that !

And as far as diapers..... I didn't change either of ours for the first 2-3 weeks.... not because I couldn't handle the pooo... but because I was afraid of how "fragile" they are..... and my wife is a trained professional in that regard :D
