I was actually thinking about this last night when I went to turn everything on. I counted the steps it takes to fire everything up. Eight! That's a combination of remotes and physically turning knobs and pushing buttons. Though I don't think a single remote will do the start up sequence entirely, it should greatly reduce the amount of steps required.

With that said, I'm still on the fence.:o

Well, the Harmony One can turn everything on and have it set to the correct inputs with one button push for almost anything you want to watch or listen to. The sequence I was talking about was when everything was already turned on and you want to give your daughter something to watch. As far as powering your gear on, the Harmony One can handle up to 15 devices if they need to be turned on at one time, which I highly doubt.

How will the Harmony power on my amps? I think they need a 5 volt trigger? Does that sound correct? This is an area I've never explored so I'm not up to date on how it all works.

Yah you definitely need a trigger and run that to the processor. I just got my amps and I notice the take a second or two to get going. I like them to be 1st to turn on and 1st to shut off. I don't want to risk anything. So that one part in my HT is not remote controllable. I just turn them on and off manually.

Perhaps you mean a 12v trigger? If so, does each amp have a 12v trigger input and ouptut? You would then daisy chain them to the prcoessor, so that whenever the processor is turned on, they would as well. I am looking at the specs and I can't tell what the amp has as far as how to power it on and about the trigger.....

Naa.....from what I remember seeing, the Mac's have 5 volt triggers. I think there is something that needs to be modded in the AVR maybe. But they are def 5v triggers.

Yes, 12v. I believe that's what I meant. I think they need 5 amps (?) to power them on using the 12v trigger. Does that sound right? I believe each amplifier needs to be connected by a little cable to use the trigger system. Does this make sense?

I know there's a 5 in there somewhere.:D Since I never used the trigger system, I never investigated the "how to" before.

I couldn't locate this info....but in theory, you would want to connect them (if possible) to each other and then the AVR. As far as the 5v triggers working with the AVR, that may take some add'l research. Do you leave them on now or manually turn them off/on?

phansson 01-12-2011 03:51 PM

Wabo, I have all of my amps ( 4 of them ) "daisy chained" so that they turn on with one 12v trigger from my pre/pro. So one cable goes from the 12v trigger output to the input on 1st amp. Then the ouput from that amp goes to the next amp input, and so on. I can tell you that having them come on with a trigger is a godsend. It makes everything easier. I wish I still had my screen "triggered" but my screen only has a remote (which cant be programmed into a harmony:mad::mad:).

Why the hate for Affleck? I agree he isn't the best actor, but he was pretty good in "the town". Of course I doubt it is a stretch for him to play a Boston thief.....

I recall reading somewhere that the Mac amps use 5v triggers. But didn't pay much attention to it, as at the time, I wasn't interested in it. I manually turn the amps on/off. This may be more work then it's worth. As they say, you can't teach an old dog new tricks. And I'm an old dog.

If you can daisy chain them (as simple as plugging the triggers into each input/ouput on each amp and running the last one to the processor, then assigning it as such to the correct input in your processor) then you are golden and would never have to do anything again. Simplicity is one of the fruits of life, take a bite and grab a Harmony! :D

A quick email to McIntosh should clear the trigger confusion up. And that will tell me my next step.;)

I really don't want to pay a lot for a remote. I'll more than likely search ebay for one.

I can't imagine the bliss it must be like to push one button and have everything come on. And then push a single button and have everything turn off. Sadly, I've never known such bliss.

Lol. Affleck just bugs me.

Sounds almost too easy.

Lol. I'm ready to take a bite. I'm all about the simplicity.:)
