I got a quote today (finally) on an RS40 and RS50, glasses (per pair) and an emitter. So I am trying to keep from pulling the trigger anytime soon.

Pretty exciting! So when does the phansson HT make the move to 3D?

Waiting to hear back from my supplier tomorrow. He actually shot me a pretty decent price. He was trying to talk me into going with the RS50 over the RS40. After reading some posts over on AVS, I think I am just going to do the RS40. Kris Deering has said essentially that the RS50 isn't worth the upgrade over the RS40, in his opinion. So that settled it for me. I respect his reviews completely.

So I am going to get in line with the distributor tomorrow hopefully. It will probably be a month until it gets in stock.

Did you pull the trigger on the 1100? I think that is the route you should go. The price has came down enough and with Amazon's liberal return policy, you don't have to keep it!

So I am off to the rack. I will dream of 3D and a new projector this evening!

That's awesome! You'll be the first person I know with a front projection 3D theater. I haven't been following the new projectors. What's the difference between the RS40/50? What does JVC say the 50 gives you over the 40? No question, I like Kris Deerings reviews too. Last I read, you were having trouble with your Oppo 93. Have you resolved that issue? Knock on wood, but my 93 has been rock solid.

I still haven't pulled the trigger on a new remote yet.:o I did get to play with a 1100 tonight. It's a lot thinner than I thought it would be. The pictures make it look bigger. I'm still on the fence.:dizzy:

P.S. Sweet 3D dreams.;)

Hey Wabo,

The RS 40 and 50 are the exact same units except the 50 adds 20,000 (advertised) contrast, has more "tweaks" for the color gamutand adds THX certification for 3D. This is the post I was talking about.

Quote:

Kris Deering on AVS forum,

Well some new thoughts to share on the RS40 now that I've had some time with it, calibrated it twice, and done some calibrating with two RS50s.

First off, I'm glad I got the 40 and not the 50. Don't get me wrong, the 50 is an excellent machine that throws a gorgeous picture, but to get it dialed in properly is probably one of the most tedious adventures one could take. It literally takes hours to get it where I would want it, and even then it doesn't dial in as good as my RS35 did or my friend's RS750. The RS40 on the other hand does dial in quite nicely with only a fraction of the effort, but you won't get the color gamut as tight as you can with a RS50. I'm still getting a higher delta than I would like with Green, but most of the other colors are in a spot I can live with.

With 2D material this thing is a beauty. Contrast looks incredible and shadow detail is superb. I don't find myself missing my RS35 with any of the images I see, though the 35 dialed in better for calibration and had a slightly better pixel focus at the screen. I haven't seen anything from the two RS50s I've spent time with to make me think you're getting much more than a 40 in this regard.

3D is also outstanding but like many here I think it could be brighter. I also see more ghosting with certain titles than I do with the RS50 (Despicable Me is a great example). But it still looks better than it does at the local cinema. I'm not the biggest fan of the glasses, but small price to pay for the overall experience.
So needless to say this post helped make up my mind. The RS40, with a new HDMI cable, three pairs of glasses, emitter and a new Chief mount plate will still be about $1000 cheaper than the RS50. So I guess that is the route I am going to go.

Good Morning Wabo  :D

Lol. I wish it was as rockin' as that. I tell you what, that breakfast hurt me. I was down for the count after that.:sleep2:

I pull up the Amazon screen with the 1100 on it and come close to buying it, but then get cold feet and cancel it out.:o

Hi phansson.

That was a great post by Kris Deering. Thanks for sharing it. And when you can get all you're getting for a grand less than the RS50 alone, it becomes a no-brainer. Won't your existing Chief mount work for the RS40 too?

I'm excited for you, my 3D front projector brotha!

The Chief mount will work, but I need a new mounting plate. It isn't a universal mount.

Come on Wabo, pull the trigger on the 1100! I know you would be happy with the outcome. SeanMF even offered to sell you his one week old one.
