Isn't that an HDMI 1.4 feature anyway?

BTW, I had an HT2000mkII and the alarm lights and display went out on it. I contacted Monster and they replaced it without me having a receipt. They use the date stamp and serial number to confirm if it met the 5 year warranty. It did. They said I did not need to return the broken one. I ended up throwing it out because I did not trust if it was doing anything.

I still do not think I would buy their cables. Just too over priced even if the CS is great.

I stand corrected Hammie. Both devices must be HEC equipped and I do not see any data confirming that even the most recent XBox 360 Slim is equipped with that feature.

I emailed Blue Jeans over the weekend and received their reply today. In a nutshell they said how fragile HDMI connectors are and that they can't accept returns on any cable over 30 days old (mine is over the limit.) The best they can do for me is a discount on B-stock cable. Honestly, I wasn't sure what to expect. But it is what it is.

Moving on, I'm thinking about this cable in 50' length. I like the idea of it locking into place. They offer it in two versions "high speed" and "high speed with Ethernet channel." The latter being $50 more. My question is, what's the difference?

Did you order one wabo?

While the projector is in route for repair:( I was thinking about just upgrading my cables in the ceiling. Nothing comes without am amplifier after 20' on the new 1.4 cables, makes me a little nervous.

Basically Blue Jeans says it's my fault for not supporting the HDMI cable correctly. I dunno, perhaps it is. Here's a direct quote from their email.

Quote:

As a general rule, we do not accept cable for return after 30 days. Any defect in manufacture of a cable assembly will ordinarily manifest itself immediately upon installation; the most frequent cause for requests to return cable after 30 days have passed is injury to HDMI connectors, which is caused either by incorrect attachment of pull-ropes to cable (specifically, allowing the pull force to be applied to the connector rather than attaching a pull rope to the jacket upstream of the connector body) or by excessive bend pressure, usually applied near the cable/connector interface either by twisting the cable hard at the point of insertion or by inserting the cable and then pushing the device into which it has been inserted too close to a wall or other obstacle to allow the cable to bend gradually away from the connection. We cannot accept cables which have been damaged in this manner for return.
Whatever. Like I said, it is what it is.

I'm still leaning toward the Better Cable I linked above. I like their locking mechanism too.

Hi Phansson.

No, I haven't ordered it yet. Still doing some research. Do I want to get the HDMI w/ Ethernet channel to be prepared for the future? Does it even matter? This cable goes thru my ceiling to my pj, and I don't want to replace it again. Also, their longer HDMI cable has two-way active imbedded high-performance equalizer (amplifier) for lengths at and beyond 16 feet. Internally powered that does not require external power supply. Do I want or need that? Will it degrade the signal and/or performance?:shrug2:

P.S. How long will you be without your pj? It sucks having your HT down.:(

D 10-05-2010 02:09 AM

Hey Jeff, I would look into the balun's Buddy. Once the cat-5 is run, you don't have to worry about it again, although I'd run 4 of them, just in case you have an issue later on with one. If the 1.4 balun's are not available yet, I don't think it will be long before they are. Good luck Mi Amigo! D. :) Check out ultralink cables as well.

Hi D.

Good evening, my friend.

Thanks for the help and suggestions, amigo. However, this is a bit over my DIY skills.:D:huh:

Been one of those weeks so far. Yesterday my HDMI cable broke:( rendering my HT inoperable and tonight my kid opened my wife's car door smack into my car door leaving a nice big ding.:mad: Serenity now!:D

Jeff, my rebuttal to them would have been, "As a general rule, I do not continue to do business with a company that touts that they are better than the competition and when the said company's actions to a customer's concern is contrary to their self proclamation, I tend not to ever do business with them again and not only that, tell everyone I know about my unfortunate experience with that company!" At least the competition has an unwavering faith in it's product and stands behind it's product 100%!" Too bad I can't say that about BlueJeans Cable.

But Jeff, that's just me.

BTW, this is not the first time i've read of a BJC customer having at similar experience to yours.

Good evening/morning Lawrence.

Lol. Yeah, those bastards!:shakefist: I actually haven't replied at all to the BJC email. I'm simply shaking my head, and ready to move on to another company. How hypocritical for Blue Jeans to bad mouth Monster Cable, but then not stand behind their own inferior product.

To be honest, I am disappointed in their customer service. But I'm chalking it up to a learning experience and won't spend any more money with that company (Blue Jeans Cable) for those wondering.

If you don't mind PMing me some of the other BJC bad experiences you're familiar with, I'd like that.

Hello Jeff.

Check this out! Tell me what you see!:unimpressed::huh:

BJC!:unimpressed:
30 days!?!?!! WTF is that! 30 days!?! That's poor! Very poor.
You spend $100+ on any cable and your get 30 days of backing and that's it!?!

Anyway, you will see other cable manufacturers in the comparison. But I do like the HDMI cable you initially embedded in your previous post.

Hey Wabo, I personally don't know ANYTHING about the ethernet channel, but I would assume it would be better for both of us to go ahead and install it just incase. I am guessing it is backwards compatible???

The equalizer kind of scares me, but I would assume it is necessary for longer lengths on 1.4. Most sites don't even have a 1.4 cable over 20' (some are as short as 15').

I don't know, the PJ is boxed up and ready to go back to Sony. I just can't dial out the "grey". This just started about 4 months ago and it drives me crazy. Hopefully it will not take to long, but I would guess it will be at least a month.

I am VERY interested in the new JVC DLA RS40U. It is a 3D Dila projector with a 50,000 contrast ratio. The price isn't overly horrible but I really can't afford the expense at the moment:mad:. I have contacted my local dealer to check on the price and he hasn't gotten back to me. I would like to just pick one up right now and then sell the Sony when it gets back.

I would prefer to wait on picking up a 3D projector until they get the bugs worked out, but I am chomping at the bit with all of the COOL 3D releases coming up in the next year. STAR WARS maybe in 2012!!!!

Hi Lawrence.

Great point. As much bad mouthing of Monster Products as BJC does, they only offer a freakin' 30 day warranty. At least Monster will stand behind their products with a lifetime warranty. Gotta give 'em kudos for that.

Hi phansson.

I emailed BetterCables today with some questions. Here's what they had to say:

Quote:

The ethernet channel is used to provide network capabilities between devices. The cable looks the same and has the same connector as the non-ethernet channel cable. The ethernet channel is new for HDMI 1.4 and you should start seeing devices with this capability in the near future. So, the answer depends on whether or not you want to have this capability in place for the future. The amplifier does not degrade the signal and both the non-ethernet and ethernet versions work perfectly at 50 feet.
Quote:

Yes, the ethernet version is more future-proof. It is compatible with ALL versions of HDMI. The locking cable was built for situations like yours, and will not fall apart.
Well, I ordered this cable in 50' w/ the Ethernet. I'm ready for HDMI 1.4 now, baby! It should arrive this Friday. Right in time for the weekend and for me to watch the Twins sweep the Spankees and advance in the ALDS.:D I'm not looking forward to pulling it thru my ceiling though.:cringe:

Very cool you're gonna go 3D. I saw the pic of the JVC pj in your thread. That's a mighty fine looking pj, my friend. Seeing Star Wars in 3D will be mind blowing!:mindblowing:

I hope Sony gets your VW60 fixed and back to you ASAP. My HT has only been down for two days and I'm going nuts!:insane:

phansson 10-06-2010 04:33 AM

Again, I would like to reiterate, I would LIKE to go 3D......:D:mad::D:mad:

The funds might make it a tough climb for a little while.

I am looking forward to your thoughts on the cable. It looks like a good product so you need to give me a good review. If it is positive, I will probably go ahead and upgrade my cable to the projector. Mine is a three year old 1.2 monoprice cable, so it isn't going to be very future proof (it is probably maxed out at the moment).

Not having my theater isn't bothering me yet, but I am sure it will start driving me crazy in a couple of days. Hopefully Sony will be on the ball and fix it ASAP.

That's a helluva pre/pro for $1500!!

HDMI 1.4, the latest Audyssey MultEQ XT and balanced 7.2 outputs. To use a baseball metaphor (it is the playoffs, afterall) looks like Marantz hit one outta the park.

Hello Jeff, I'm just waiting on more reviews about this very interesting product from Marantz. I'm a Marantz man from way back. And I'm bias to the old school build quality (Made in Japan). So, I will wait until more reviews surface. Then make a decision about it.

I have pretty much decided to pull the trigger on this Marantz processor. It fits EVERYTHING that I was looking for (except maybe THX certification, but that isn't a big deal).

VERY EXCITED!!!
