Jeff and Fors,

I remember when I was growing up, Bugs Bunny, FogHorn LegHorn, Yosemite Sam, Wile E Coyote, Elmer Fudd, and Daffy Duck along with Melvin the Martian was the standard. The dialogue was IMO opinion at times just as racy as it is now. Tell you a quick story,.......

One day, (I had to be about 8 or 9) my Mom screamed at me for not cleaning my bedroom! It's not like that wasn't status quo, I always got yelled at for not completing that chore! But this particular time was memorable. Why? Well I decided that this would be a good time to speak Yosemite Sam-ese! In response to her tirade, I said "Frickle frackle, frobble rap frap frabbalap!" I figured they weren't actually swear words!http://forum.blu-ray.com/images/smil...rted/shrug.gif

http://www.insidesocal.com/tomhoffar...m_stressed.jpg

Well, my Mother turned around and in a very quiet tone, told me to bring my lips over to her! :ohnoes: Once I got within reach, she smacked me right on them! I told her, "but Mom, I didn't say real curse words!" her response was, "Then what in the hell do you think Yosemite Sam is really trying to say, but he can't, because it's TV!?!" "I knew what you meant! The same thing he meant on the cartoon! Now get your narrow behind upstairs and clean that room!"

Moral of the story, the more things change, the more they stay the same!

We still have to monitor what's on TV for our kids, just like our parents did for us.

Keeping with the Loony Toons theme. BK (before kids) I got into collecting WB and Hanna-Barbera animation cels. I have a few signed by Chuck Jones, Fritz Freiling and Hanna-Barbera. Here's a cel I have of ol' Sam himself signed by the legendary Mr. Fritz Freiling. Pic was taken with my iPhone, not the best quality. The kid in me still loves this stuff.:D

Jeff, that was one of the funniest episodes! After the dragon sneezes and burns Yosemite Sam for the nth time, Yosemite says to the dragon, vehemently, but at the same time calmly, "I hate you dragon!":rotfl:
Those were the days. Man, even as high schoolers, we would sit around and watch the Warner Bros./Looney tunes Cartoons and crack up!
That is so cool that you have the memorabilia! I tried to get my 11 year older into Bugs and the crew, but she just didn't get it. For some reason, the word "like" was mysteriously missing from the script!

Anyway, how was your day?!

Like, hi Lawrence.:p

The Looney Toons are classics. I'm a Scooby Doo fan too.:D

My day wasn't too bad. Had Chinese for dinner. Hot & sour soup warms the bones on another really cold day.;) Helped my kids with their homework, then played some Guitar Hero and Ratchet & Clank with my boys.

I even got in some rockin' on the system tonight. Now I will try and catch up on all the shows I have DVR'd.

How was your day?

So I'm happy Mac is finally getting on board with the HD codecs. One nice thing about the AVP is it's battle tested. It's been out for about 2 years now and is still at the top of the game.

Looking at the pics of the MX150 & MVP881 is like HT porn. Give me a few minute in the bathroom...:D:D

Maybe Halcro or Lexicon, but Classe certainly has HDMI 1.3:D.

I love the looks of your Macs... and that MVP881 would certainly look nice in your shelf.

My bad.:o Last time I looked into Classe they had yet to adopt 1.3. I'll have to revisit.;) It's amazing how fast the technology moves and evolves.

I'd love to get the MX150 and/or the MVP881. Sadly, it's just not in the cards... yet...

Me too. I just came from their website. Even their new CCT-800 is still in the 4 in/2 out HDMI mindset.

I think the trend is starting to move to 8 HDMI in and 2 Out on the higher end models.

The CCT-800 is essentially the same as the SSP800, but it's a rack-mountable version.

It is hard not to get spoiled on the OPPO though, like you said. I was dead set against getting one and when I finally replaced my Pio05, I wondered what took so long;).

We have taken similar paths, JS. I also was dead set on getting the Oppo. I also had the Pio05, which I sold and got the big Pio09. That thing was a beast. However, since I bitstream, I wasn't taking advantage of it's beefy DACs... and it was s-l-o-w. After reading so many positive reviews on the Oppo, I said "what the hell" and bought it. And I'm sure glad I did. It's taken everything I've throw at it, and it's fast. I'm now spoiled.

Hello Jeff!

I hope you had a progressive day.

Well, let me tell you what happened today. I got into a debate with my 11 year old daughter! About what you ask?!!! It was about her inalienable human right to watch "Family Guy"! :yikes::huh::quizzical:

She tells me that her classmates watch it so she should be able to exercise her "inalienable human right" and watch it too! :unimpressed::eyebrow: I just look at her!

Jeff, I wanted to laugh, because that definitely wasn't happenin'! So with a straight face, I told her using the ol' skol venacular my mom used to apply when she was getting her point across,... "You can watch it if you want too!" Meaning, I dare you to watch it! As a matter of fact, I double dare you to watch it!

Obviously she felt that I was being completely unreasonable and unfair! My response was :talktothehand:

Dude, Familly Guy! She's acting as if this is required viewing for an 11 year old! There is so much NC-17 material on that show it's crazy!

The wife and I still get shocked with some of the things Todd McFarlane comes up with! The perverted (pedophile) old guy!:yikes: How in the world they get away with that just amazes me! That's the culture we now live in!

My boys love 'Family Guy' but I try to only let them see certain clips from YouTube. They are on me about buying them the 'Family Guy: Something, Something, Something Movie.' They even offered up their own money to buy it. They have seen the movie trailer but I'm not sure how 'out there' Seth takes the Star Wars parody thing.

Lou,

Think about it! If he's buck wild with the TV show, he's going to be out of control with a movie!?!:yikes: But I could be wrong in my assessment because, in order to make the money, the movie most appeal and be available to all market segments.

Lou, my son is 6 and he BEGS me all the time to watch either of the two star wars family guy parodies (we don't let him watch the regular tv versions either). "Something something something darkside" throws the f bomb a couple of times and it is not beeped out on the blu ray.

Hello Lou.

My question is will that be the major difference between the mid priced and hi-end pre-pros? The number of HDMI inputs?

I mean, how much better are new hi-end processors going to be? The Onkyo PR-SC5507P is very impressive for the money. And lets not forget Emotiva with the soon to be released UMC-1. They may not have the Gennum VXP processors, but the Onkyo does have HQV-reon and the Emotiva will sport the Analog Devices processors. That ain't bad for the money, not to mention balanced XLR inputs!

Do you really have to spend $3K to get a high quality pre/pro?

Swearing doesn't bother me as much is the sex stuff. If my kids haven't heard it out of my mouth, it has never been said before. My New Year's resolution to my kids was to try to stop swearing in front of them. They are at the age when ever I swear they just giggle.

Waboman 01-08-2010 04:43 AM

'sup gentlemen?

Here's my take. The Family Guy cracks me up. However, there's no way I'm letting my kids watch it. MacFarlane gets off on pushing the boundaries and making people squirm. Example, the old pedophile guy. WTF is he even doing in the show? He has no real purpose other than to push the limits.

I'm trying to keep my kids as innocent as possible for as long as I can... and it's a losing battle. But that's to be expected as they get older. A few months ago my 10 year old was invited to a sleepover. The kids parents were home and we thought there would be supervision. The first thing my boy says when he gets in the car the next morning is, "Dad, we watched rated R movies!":mindblowing::jawdrop::mindblowing: After I calmed down, we sat down and had a talk about what he saw and heard. He's surprisingly mature. Let me tell you, I was a race car in the red!

I enjoy the Family Guy, and in a few years my kids might too. But not now. Giggity-giggity.:D

I am with you on that Wabo, you can try to do a good job, but kids are exposed to so much right now it IS a losing battle.

My daughter (15 now) has a friend that she used to spend the night with. One day when she got home, after spending the night with them, we found out that her friends parents had let her boyfriend sleep over at their house! Of course my daughter said "oh, he slept in the guest room". Then we found out this wasn't a special circumstance, this would happen a couple of times a month. Needless to say, my daughter doesn't spend the night there anymore.

Don't you think that it would depend on what you are using it for?

Would it be better to spend $3k on a nice pre/pro. One that would be great for home theater and decent for 2 channel or.....

Spend $2k on great a pre/pro and spend another $1k on a nice dedicated pre amplifier (I don't even know if that is possible)?

If 2 channel was really something that I wanted to jump into, I would have two dedicated systems. JMHO.

I'm with you also Wab! I still trip with my 18 year old daughter! It's very hard to let go and let them grow up.

Now Phansson, you're better than I am! I would have been snappin'!
:panic::rant::shakefist:
It's now a crap shoot when you allow your kids to sleep over a friend's house. I mean, you really have to know the parents, and hope they have the same priniciples and values your have. In today's world, who has the time to interview parents to determine if it's safe for your kid to spend the night! Well I can tell you, my wife not only interviews but makes sure the parent understands what's acceptable and what's not acceptable for my daughter. I mean a face to face has to happen! The Mrs. is tenacious!

That is my biggest fear. My 8yo has asked to sleep over or have a friend come and sleep over. It makes it hard when the parent has no interest in talking to you in order to see what expectation they have or voice our expectations to them.

As of now, there has been no sleep overs with friends. We let our sons have sleep overs together since they have separate bedrooms and they still feel it is "special." I'm fine with that for as long as I can. :D

Actually with todays technology its quite easy to properly integrate a HT and 2-channel system. I just purchased a pre-amp with HT bypass so that they can play together nicely :)

Besides, most of us just don't have room for two systems :o

Oh My,Those are Two Beautiful Pre/Pros .

Denon deserves the High Praise and Owner Loyality it receives. Its performance and Quality are amazing for its price and also for a Brand that some still consider Mass-Market.

But that McIntosh is Almost so Beautiful I could enjoy it just standing there and looking at it.I wouldn't even have to turn it on.

I have wondered,as I have never seen a system composed of almost all McIntosh Gear.

Did you have a chance to audition many brands.
Or when you heard the Incredibly Pure and Detailed Sound McIntosh produces, were you hooked to their gear from that point? :)

Fors* 01-08-2010 09:35 AM

Those McIntosh Amps are just beautiful....I can only imagine how well they perform....

Not that I'm looking for another pre, but IF I was, these 2 would be on my short list:).
