On that film, in particular, the tints are the only indication of which scenes take place during the day and which are at night.

Whoops, I didn't know that. I figured it would have been B&W at first or something.

Well, with that in mind, I ought to give it another try.

It looks like you got the Ray Harryhausen Collection! :) How are those movies? I should rent them on Netflix. The only Harryhausen movie I remember watching was The Clash of The Titans. Holds a lot of nostalgia for me! I own it on DVD and excited to buy it on BD when it comes out.

Yes, I do have the Ray Harryhausen Collection on blu-ray. If you enjoy 50's sci-fi flic's, then these are a must buy. I am a huge fan of classic horror and classic sci-fi films, have about 200 on dvd, hoping to make it 200 on blu-ray too, always watching the blu-ray sites for news of classic film releases on blu-ray.

orion10 02-07-2010 03:58 AM

I'll just add myself to the Snow White list. :)

Snow White (1937)
Wizard of Oz (1939)
Pinnochio (1940)
The Third Man (1949)
North by Northwest/Sleeping Beauty (1959)

toef 02-07-2010 04:12 AM

Snow White ('37)
Robin Hood ('38)
Wizard of Oz ('39)
Pinocchio ('40)

~~~~
Unrelated... I keep all my DVDs in chronological order, based on the years they were released (though genres are kept separate...Western, War, Horror, Animation, Everything Else).
The point is, I'll probably eventually do that with my Blu-rays as well, but don't really have enough (~50) to care to do that yet.
Ray_Rogers 02-07-2010 04:41 AM
Dr. No (1962)
From Russia with Love (1963)
THUNDERBALL (1965)
2001: A Space Odyssey (1968)
Planet of the Apes (1968)
BULLITT (1968)
Looks like the titles in my wishlist also speak for my love of older films. Born April 5th, 1979 and I'll be turning 31 this year. Yep, I am a James Bond fan too.
ChadFL 02-07-2010 04:47 AM
For the time being my only really old movies (pre-1960's) are the Disney classics Pinocchio (1940), Sleeping Beauty (1959) and Snow White (1937). At some point I'll pick up some non-animated classics like Wizard of Oz, Casablanca, etc.
My oldest are from that classic year 1939: Wizard of Oz and Gone with the Wind. Both are a must for a serious movie collector.
I am 24.
But a true book adaptation fan would say The Wizard of Oz pales in comparison to the book since it's not a musical. No thanks, I'll wait for Return to Oz to be released onto Blu-ray since it's not a musical and is in fact closer to the overall tone of the books.:rolleyes:
I'll wait for a proper adaptaion of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz to be released instead of wanting to buy this overhyped lackluster musical. Ever read the book?
AnimationOnBluRay 02-07-2010 11:37 PM
Snow White for me too.
TokyoLee 02-07-2010 11:47 PM
Ghostbusters 1984 for me
My oldest 6:
Black Christmas (1974)
Dawn of the Dead and Halloween (1978)
The Amityville Horror (1979)
Friday the 13th and The Shining (1980)
Gotta appreciate the horror classics ;)
A true adaptation fan would say that it's not necessary for an adaptation to follow the source 100%. Just because you don't care for musicals, doesn't mean this is bad.
Well, I've never read the book, but the movie may just not follow the tone of the books closely enough to be considered a 'good' film adaption to somebody who read the books.
Mike Z 02-08-2010 03:21 PM
Ah, my bad. I have Pinocchio (1940) so 2001 is not my oldest movie on Blu.
They should not be compared IMO. I read a lot and seen many movies taken from books. I usualy enjoy both I try not to compare them but look at them as complamenting each other
boxterduke 02-08-2010 04:22 PM
Snow White, 1937
Pinnochio is second, 1940
JJ 02-08-2010 04:26 PM
Well, 1925's Battleship Potemkin is coming out in a pair of months, then that should be the oldest title once that comes out.
If not, Snow White.
