Did I not read somewhere that part of the problem with the '04 release being a rush job was to combat the huge surge in pirated copies of the film. They got it out asap to beat the pirates, but clearly forgot to use quality control. As a direct result, fan edits sprung up and made the matter worse for them.
Clearly, if what we are reading is true, they have learned from their mistakes and have gone back and re-done that which they botched. |

OR they've only seen what Lucasfilm wants them to see. That's just marketing 101. It makes perfect sense. I'm always nervous about the things we're NOT seeing. |

It feels as if they are teasing a little bit too much, but it goes back to my earlier point, the vast majority of purchasers won't know or care about previous issues, they will buy the set because they want to own Star Wars in HD. It feels a lot like they are just trying to appease the fans, but in doing so are causing even more debates and controversy about a release which to date no-one has really seen. Fun! |

I had heard this was a factor as well...I'm just not quite sure how big a factor it was. |
I think we all should breathe a lot easier for now, because going by the reports, at the very very least, it appears to be quite an improvement on the 2004 DVDs.

For the tech wizards out there, I have a question, how much more can the human eye realistically see after 1080p?
I mean, for the average consumer, is there a significant visual difference between 1080p and 2k? I'm only asking because of the fact that Episodes II and III max out at 1080p and Lucas has basically set that resolution as the defacto resolution for the entire Saga for the future. For home viewing purposes, isn't that enough for the future? I mean, I just don't see the industry coming out with another HD disc based format after this. To me, the next phase is 1080p streaming/digital download that's equal to or greater than Blu Ray. |

It was in the last episode of Star Wars Clone Wars season two. That's the episode where General Grievous gets his cough as well.... Attachment 37048 Attachment 37049 |
Well from what I read so far this makes me very excited and happy. I never knew that TPM had such cropping issues. I'll have to compare my DVD to the LaserDisc and VHS to see what (if any) changes there are related to cropping or the aspect ratio.
I'm happy I pre-ordered my Saga set from Amazon, I can't wait to get it. They've been working on this for years and it seems like they really did put a lot of hard work into this and have taken a lot of time and attention to certain details. I can't wait!! :D :celebrate: |

As far as that being anything more than a niche product, who's to say. I honestly feel that Blu is the best that the main public will ever want to invest in for the foreseeable future. |
This just goes to show that no matter what good will come from this set STILL people will find fault.
Things have been fixed that fans wanted to be fixed but still we are complaining. I suspect this is solely because people want the UOT on blu. Lucas said no UOT on blu. Period end of story. |

People complained that Lucasfilm was not being forthcoming with info about the discs and were not answering questions to people's satisfaction. Now they are providing a format to answer some of those questions and there are more complaints. The negativity surrounding this release is simply stunning. Lucas is damned if he does, and damned if he doesn't. Yancy |
I was happy to hear what Bill Hunt and other industry insiders had to say. I am very curious about what "other surprises" are.
I am also a little scared. The one surprise I DO want is the restoration of Han shooting first. Too much to ask? Probably. |

Wen all know that YouTube video even in 1080p is highly compressed, but it still shows how the new color timing and framing looks.
Here's little comparison between screenshots from DVD [top] and clip from YT [bottom]: http://img202.imageshack.us/img202/197/dvd1j.jpg http://img143.imageshack.us/img143/4723/bd1i.jpg http://img856.imageshack.us/img856/5426/dvd2go.jpg http://img831.imageshack.us/img831/111/bd2i.jpg http://img9.imageshack.us/img9/4642/dvd3x.jpg http://img806.imageshack.us/img806/7426/bd3.jpg |

Lucas and co. have really taken their time with this and by all indications this will be amazing. For those that are still complaining stick with your old outdated versions. At least in your mind they are the best. |
