Have been out all day so have only just heard about the Vader dialogue in ROTJ. I've now seen the clip and just will not believe it until I see proper reviews or people confirm they've seen the discs.

If it is genuine then it's an absolute disgrace to the OT. By far the best scene in the movie, and the most powerful in the entire saga - utterly ruined.

I soooooo hope this isn't true. Over the years I've defended Lucas's tinkering and tolerated it. But this, if true, is unforgivable and completely unjustified.

I just wonder why these shots don't look anything like the preview shot that they showed us. It seems like false advertising.

Oh, God. Why do I think this may be a distinct possibility? It sounds exactly alike, aside from any tonal changes made in post-production.

Gotta say I'm pretty much with you. I've been a die-hard SW fan my entire life and I have defended Lucas countless times for his questionable decisions, but I'm finally to the point where I'm just fed up. It's inexcusable that with the money and resources at his disposal a proper looking release of these films can't be put out in 2011 on Blu-Ray. I remember Robert A. Harris saying once over at Home Theater Forum that he would kill for the chance to do a restoration on the OT, but instead of hiring the best guy in the business to do his work apparently Lucas just gave the job to some guy who probably used to wash his cars before the promotion. It's a joke that a multi-billion dollar company like LFL is re-using transfers from 2004 with horrible color problems, not fixing hardly any of those problems and then has the balls to tout the extensive work they have done over the past 3 years! Once again, if it weren't for guys like Adywan, Harmy and Wookiee Groomer who actually care enough about these films to give them the treatment they deserve we wouldn't have any options for watching a decent presentation of the OT.

at this point, the idea of a very elaborate prank on the Star Wars obsessives is not something I'll rule out.

Because its supposed to be blue and its a simple VFX fix that even a person on a home PC can do. If a person at home can fix it then its pure laziness that Lucasfilm haven't fixed it.

Heres an idea rather than spending hours, days, weeks, or months compalining about these changes to HIS movies. Why not choose to just not watch them, and be done with it allready. either watch it or dont most ppl dont care one way or another. In fact all of the worked up cliched "GL raped my child hood whines" just add fuel to the sterotypes about star wars fans.

This can't be real.

Oh, they're very much real. You have to remember this was always part of George's vision; and had to know the back story to the yell, he had to know where the yell came from. And he just didn't have the technology to do it that way in 1977. :p

I don't buy this. From a character perspective, Jar Jar's role was taken over by the two droids in the following films. He was merely a 'fill in' for them in TPM as they were hardly present in their typical Laurel & Hardy fashion. Lucas, as a writer would have realized this very early on in the script process of ATOC.

Think of how painful it would be to have TWO C3P0s running around in ATOC and I think you get the idea that Jar Jar's presence would have been redundant and not worthwhile in the films following TPM. Besides, the reduced role served the two follow ups quite well I thought.

Besides, if Lucas truly felt that strongly about the character he could easily add scenes into the PT if he wanted to. Afterall, he is the creator of the series...

Is it just the new tweaks that people are complaining about? (which was to be expected anyways) Because I've watched a solid hour now of A New Hope, and the PQ is pretty damn great. Anyone who says otherwise is full of it IMO. The detail is often remarkable and miles better than I've ever seen Ep4 look. Nor has image been sharpened or DNR'rd. It looks natural (Sans the CG)

I understand the hate towards the tweaks, but were people really not expecting any? People are acting like we were supposed to get the unaltered cuts. We all knew we were getting the special editions, right? How is this shocking news?

It just seems the tweaks are being more reviewed as opposed to the actual quality. And from what I've actually seen with my own eyes, the quality appears to be very very good. I'm still thinking about how great the 3PO and R2 in the desert looked. Outstanding detail o those droids.

I guess it's no shock though this set is turning into another Alien/s and LOTR controversy (If you can call it that) It's always the ones with big effects and a big fan base.

What he said has nothing to do with you not posting your opinion,

If you don't like it don't buy it, simple as that...keep your opinion, you do have options to express your outrage.

Just found one of the alterations done to Episode 4:

Jumpman 08-30-2011 11:24 PM

Toschi,

Thanks for that. It's good to hear that the picture quality seems to be outstanding...even on a rip.

Jumpman 08-30-2011 11:25 PM

adywan,

That's an interesting change. I don't like or it or hate it. It's just an interesting change.

Lucas cried like a baby in front of the US Congress over the colorization of movies and did so again over the Three Stooges.

In fact many of his arguments against the colorizations were EXACTLY the same as those complaining about Star Wars.

Do a little research before you spew at people who don't want classic movies tampered with.

Blu-Runner 08-30-2011 11:25 PM

Wait a sec, so how did R2 fit in there now?

Why should we have to settle for this:

When they could have, just as easily, given us this:

Took me less than 30 seconds.

I guess R2 can flatten himself to wedge between tight areas.

It's almost as if a child got a hold of these movies and decided to make all the changes.

The only person mentioning "GL raped my childhood" is you. Why all the anger directed at people who are noticing the various changes and color problems? The only stereotype about SW fans I see is those who will gladly accept anything, no matter how faulty, GL puts out. The rest of us are rational about this and don't feel obligated to spend money on something we don't feel has sufficient quality or treatment.
