Ben's howl is now laughable. I never thought it needed to be changed in 2004 but I accepted that one. The new one sounds like the guy from the tower in the movie Airplane getting goosed by somebody. :D

There's a sale at Pennys!

Very true, Beast.

It took a few months before the outcry on the '04 release changed. Everyone pretty much gave that release praise initially.

This. Bad and totally unnecessary. If this is legitimate, it is way worse than just having his "return to humanity" implied without sound.

I'm not at all upset that I'm waiting for a nice price drop before purchasing (cancelled my pre-order weeks ago).

They'll see Star Wars on Blu-Ray and just happily buy it because it's available for them to purchase.

I guess you wasn't on the internet in 2004. When the dvds come out there was a huge outcry and it wasn't just on home theater forums. This release has even more pointless changes so I expect a larger outcry this time.

You know, I can tolerate some changes. I kike quite a few to be honest, but its the pointless ones I can't stand. The Kyrat dragon cry was perfectly fine before so why change it? That goes for the other changes like that change.

KrugerIndustrial 08-30-2011 11:57 PM

Why do I feel this is going to get a lot uglier than those LOTR fan boys crying... :p

al cos. 08-30-2011 11:59 PM

This negativity is upsetting me! Beast, hold me. Like you did by the lake on Naboo.

Jumpman 08-30-2011 11:59 PM

This was always going to be uglier than the Lord of the Rings thread.

This is Star Wars. What other way would it be?

I was. And it still amounted to nothing more than a drop in the bucket of total fans.

All one has to do is look at the sales for the set back then, regardless of those claiming they were "cancelling".

True. The "professional" reviewers gave it glowing reviews, only to later jump on the bandwagon. Amongst the fanbase online, the outcry over the color timing, sound, and lightsaber issues was widespread from the first week of release.

POST OF THE DAY! Booyah!

beanham22 08-31-2011 12:00 AM

As someone who enjoys most of the changes in the OT the Vader NoooOOOOooo makes me want to cry. This is really dissapointing if true. One of the most iconic scenes in cinema has been ruined.

WAKE ME UP FROM THIS BAD DREAM PLEASE!

This can't be real I mean it is just too terrible.

And Beast, there is life beyond the internet you know... some people actually talk in person about Star Wars with their friends. Just pathetic, they conceal R2 behind rocks (how he fit is even a mystery), give Wicket eyelids among other changes I am sure, but they can't fix the lightsabers so they match the prequels or visa versa (which is something a 14 year old can do in a night on Adobe).

Pathetic...

Aren't most of the sales for catalog titles in the first 10 days, followed by a big drop off?

It's gone beyond that now. This is going to get picked up everywhere and you can bet that Lucasfilm is going watch this reaction big time...because it's not going to be a quite one.

Yea, didn't mean to seem that post was directed at you. It was more a response to Beast and this "backgroundactorman" guy who's come out of nowhere.

Today will be a day long remembered. It has seen the death of the A/V debate, and will soon see the end of the apologists. (just kidding)

I'm still genuinely curious to see what kenkraly thinks. He was online earlier today according to his profile. And no, I'm not stalking. I simply think he's an important part of this discussion because he received that email from LFL and has represented the position that the blu-rays would have proper fixes. No argument desired - just want to know what he thinks.

frogmort 08-31-2011 12:03 AM

I just found this bit of "news":

"...For starters, no changes have been made that affect the story this time around (i.e. Greedo shooting at Han Solo first at the Mos Eisley Cantina in the special edition). It appears each modification this time around is to address technical gaffs in the prequel series or in the subsequent editions of the original trilogy.

Take, for instance, the lack of vibrancy seen in the lightsabers once the original trilogy was transferred to DVD. For whatever reason, the glow-swords-of-awesomeness lacked the original flare and were out-right dull. That will not be the case in the new release; Lucas has brought back the lightsabers’ traditional vibrant colors and white-glowing core."

:rotfl: :unimpressed:

BMM 08-31-2011 12:06 AM

What really irks me is that these guys from LFL had the balls to say how much work they did over the past 3 years to correct the flaws on the DVDs and then it turns out they basically did nothing!

Dynamo of Eternia 08-31-2011 12:09 AM

I think the movie needs even more changes! In addition to the extra rocks being placed in front of R2, I think he should be given his first ever english dialogue to REALLY drive home the point that he's hiding...

BMM,

Based on comments made about the audio, I don't think Lucasfilm was lying. The word is that the audio mix is fantastic.

I agree. It used to sound like what I could picture as a scary beastly scream. Now it sounds like some cartoon character getting punched in the nuts.
