I'll wait for the reviews. If the deleted scenes end up being much ado about nothing, I may pass on this. I honestly don't see myself ever watching these movies beginning to end on Blu-ray.

I can always pick up a copy of the set a year from now when one of those crazy sales show up where it's only 40 or 50 bucks.

rycon46 08-31-2011 07:02 PM

I will not be buying this. I was ok with the SE, I was ok with the prequels, but this is the best moment of all of the saga. Oh well, dvd's will do fine for a while....

Although there's an argument as to how he got in there, the same could be said before the vhange as theres a slope of rocks leading to the gap. So he couldn't have rolled up there.

That seals it. This sucks. While I loved the end of this movie before, now it will bring me a snicker and shake of the head each time. I can just picture all of Lucas' yes men agreeing with what a brilliant idea it is to bastardize the classic ending in order to tie it in with one of the most mocked moment in all the prequels. Absolute stupidity.

Because it's clear that the Blu-rays are going to be inferior and people on that site who read the reviews need to know that before wasting their hard earned cash on the product. Sorry your denial doesn't allow you to see that.

Is this the line in the sand?

You have 15 days to make up your mind.

I feel a bit like an odd man out. I dislike most of the obvious structural changes everyone seems to complain about. But like some of the minor fixes.

But overall I'm just not "emotional" about it. There's still so much of my childhood left in those films that I will still buy them. I'm not sure where my line in the sand is, but it must be far away yet.

So yeah, I'm in the middle. and my head is hurting from the extreme hyperbole of both the pro and anti Lucas crowds. But yet I still read these places. Maybe I'm a glutton for self punishment?

So yeah I can't defend these changes. There's no real defense in my mind. But I still enjoy the films enough to buy them. In fact I'm a little giddy about some of the bonus features even. I know there's a camp for me, but we're just not the vocal camp I guess.

Sorry for the slightly off-topic question but...

Can someone point me to a resource that outlines the different releases over the years with the changes in each release?

Thanks

The real challenge for people on the fence is when Best Buy and Target put out their ad and the price of the set is 20 dollars cheaper than Amazon.

How do you react then?

Horrible. Absolutely horrible. If Lucas wanted to make people forget about Greedo shooting first, he succeeded on epic levels. Worst Special Edition change by far. However, it will be highly entertaining to hear Lucas apologists rationalize why this change is for the "better" and how much they "love" this God-awful change.

It'll only be visible for the second it takes me to throw up all over the ad.

So it's now official...George Lucas is no longer a filmmaker but a hack.
I know that in the grand scheme of things it's just a film, but I'm flabbergasted at how GL could casually, deliberately, destroy his own legacy.

TPM: Obi-Wan (as Qui-Gon gets stabbed)

AOTC: When Anakin jumps to save Obiwan in their duel with Dooku? Maybe?

ROTS: Anakin (when Mace tries to Kill Palps)
Vader (learns of Padme's death)

ANH: Luke (at Obi-Wan's death)

ESB: Luke (I am your father)

ROTJ: Vader (redemption)

People don't read a reviewing hoping it's from someone who read things about a product on an internet forum. They go to internet forums for that. I have to agree, reviews are for people who actually...you know..review the product.

It's one of the reasons I ignore most reviews on there now is because of over zealous fans or haters trying to "educate" people about things they have never laid their hands/eyes on.

But I do understand it's cathartic release for people emotional about these films and feel they need to hurt the product somehow, as it has clearly hurt them.

Cancelled on Amazon!

I just cancelled my Preorder:mad:

They will rationalize it by saying that Vader has come "full circle". When he first donned the mask and did the Frankenstein walk and found out about Padme, his reaction was the famous "Nooooo!" Then he lost all emotion until the end of RotJ where he says "Nooooo!" showing he cares again. Full circle - just brilliant thematic work here. What utter stupidity.

There's a no in AotC, when Yoda is meditating and Anakin is killing the Tuskens you can hear Qui Gon yelling, "Anakin! Anakin! Noo!".

I thought Qui-Gon yelled "no" as Anakin Slaughtered the Tuskan Raiders Camp?
I'm sure it was a sound clip from TPM, but still, I believe that was a No.
