Yep....that's pure Lucas.

I would expect A LOT more stupid, meaningless CGI changes for the 3D, as well. This Blu-ray release will seem fine compared to what the 3D originals will be like.

Then why does he even have a gun if his species isn't capable of using them? As I said, he's 2 feet away, nobody would miss that.

Because that's what he has reiterated over and over again. He released them as a bonus feature using the laserdisc transfer. That's as good as you're going to get.

It's Star Wars.

That's a pretty bad example.

I found a musical analogy for this thread.

It's Star Wars.

Yeah Im kinda thinking that you are going to be suprised how well a 90.00 set sells at Wal Mart in this economy.

Lucas has a long history of reiterating things over and over... and then saying something contradictory and then saying that over and over.

You're actually pointing out an example of that yourself. He included a note with the 1995(?) release of the trilogy saying it would be the last time. Then put it out again on DVD just a few years ago as a bonus.

Never say never.

In case Lucas hasn't provided ample evidence of that already, people's stances change. His more recent interviews touching on the matter don't seem to indicate it's off the table, just that it's expensive and the "classic" versions are not their top priority.

He said "those versions don't exist for me anymore". It's pretty easy to deduct what he means there.

The DVD supporters have won! ;)

Peak of DVD: Star Wars original trilogy
Peak of Blu-ray: Lord of the Rings Extended versions

I'm sorry but when you have reviews on amazon saying, "Buy this if you like what Michael Jackson did to his face" you're in a little bit of trouble.

Those people who review on Amazon haven't seen the Blu. So what are they reviewing? They're reviewing what they think is on the Blu. That's one of the problems with reviews from unknown people. You have no idea if they've seen the film, under what conditions they're watching it, what their knowledge of film history and art is and whether or not they're idiots. Everyone with an ax to grind goes onto sites like Amazon and vents. So for me, most amateur reviews on Amazon and sites like it are a complete waste of time.

The worst thing about this is that, personally, it has drained away all the excitement of seeing these great movies in glorious 1080p. It's gone from counting down the days to 'Meh'.

All of this is from someone who's only ever seen the 2004 DVD cut. Cosmetic tweaks don't bother me but alterations of key character moments are a deal-breaker, no matter the movie.

LADodgers 09-01-2011 07:20 PM

Even this would have been better than the NOOooooooooooooooo

The addition of a word ("no") is absolutely an alteration of a key character moment and ruins the entire 5 other movies for me...
