Jump to the section of video where Vader is in his cockpit ("Stay on the the leader") and compare it to the 2004 version of the film...

The colours look far more natural. The lights shining from his console are actually a shade of pink and appear more life-like, as well as the bottom-left area of his cockpit showing more detail and brightness. The blue hue is also reduced.

A less obvious comparison, but again, more detail in the X-Wing engines and and improved contrast/no crushed black.

Can't wait to see these films on my T.V, regardless of the extras/O.T vs S.Es. Their are no excuses for a poor transfer this time - the 2004 job was rushed and, apparently, Lucas only gave Lowry around 6 weeks to colour time the film. Considering how long they've been working on this new product, its shaping up to be a wonderful release day.

Thanks for the comparison... I thought so too. The shots looked really fresh to me. Iīm hoping for more footage soon. I really canīt wait for this release.
What I also found interesting is the look of the interview... gives us a glimpse of the overall menu design of the discs.

Oh yes. GL has confirmed that the SW movies were always intended to be for girls, but he thought a slow transition would be easier to swallow for us guys. :D

Yeah, it's going to be a day long remembered for 8yr old girls the world over. :lolcry:

Good times. One of my favourite lines of A New Hope - "Cover me, Porkins". I mean, LOL, what was the point of Porkins? A slight engine malfunction, and a few seconds later, he blows up.

Jay444 06-17-2011 02:27 PM

Ha! So, basically what this article is saying is: No more 3D conversions after ATOC. I think people will go for the Phantom Menace, but I highly doubt that ATOC is going to make much of anything and will put an end to this little 3D experiment.

http://www.darkhorizons.com/news/208...y-3d-star-wars

P.S. those screen shots taken from the Ewan McGregor thing look nice. Just don't like the pink hues in Vader's Tie Fighter. Just a knee jerk reaction though as anything with "Pink and Vader" in the same sentence remind me of the lightsaber in Empire/Jedi.

The Apocalypse 06-17-2011 02:30 PM

Eh, 3D is not my kinda thing anyway. It'd be nice, but for me, it's not of paramount importance to see the films (or any other, for that matter) in 3D.

His sister didn't really care for it. My nephew liked some parts of it but didn't care too much for it. He was more into Transformers 2 the night before than Star Wars! Is it a generational thing? I was younger than him watching them and I liked them. I think he's seen one of the prequel trilogy movies and he's seen the Clone Wars cartoon. He kept asking...where's Anakin? I like Anakin!

a guy i know told me a similar story with William Shatner - his daughter saw him on his new show and then said she was flipping channels and saw a guy on some old show (didn't know it was Star Trek) who looked a lot like him. She thought the 2 guys might be related :p guess character names are not that important after all.

Good point It looks like the films have been given a new HD transfer for blu-ray at least for A New Hope , ESB and ROTJ we will have to wait and see. Now I know it's just a screenshot but from the looks of things they have fixed the problems with the color timing like improved contrast/no crushed blacks for the blu-ray box set release.

Yep. So thats one thing to tick off the Whinging List; "New transfer".

You are completely WRONG. First, the colors are still the same. We have pink instead of red. Crushed blacks are also still presented. Second, Lowry was not responsible for color timing in 04 release. It was Lucas himself. For more info: http://secrethistoryofstarwars.com/savingstarwars.html

Here are pictures from original SW in 1977:

http://i52.tinypic.com/30wnxau.jpg RED AND SILVER instead of blue and pink in 04 release

Here are screens from 1997:

The colors are still wrong! PINK STRIKES BACK.
Crushed black also present. Look at the X-Wing backroung - in 1977 you could see much more stars. This was also the case in 1997. It obvious that we can expect again a dissapointing job from Lucasfilm.

The Apocalypse 06-17-2011 07:50 PM

I doubt whether the clip (which is on Play.com btw) is truly 100% representative of the Blu-ray, so I certainly won't be making any complaints. Further more, it seems like, this thread will indeed turn into LotR EE style outrage, if this keeps up. Only difference is, this one could go on for a few more months. People should probably not get it if they expect disappointments.

kenkraly2004 06-17-2011 08:03 PM

Those images are not going to be what the blu-rays looks like so do not judge the box set until it comes out in September.

Nicely put, altough there'll probably be those who'd dispute that and say it is representative of the Blus. I'm waiting for and expecting a great quality release, and I assume that is what I will get.

Yes indeed some people need to stop getting panicked about the blu-ray box set we don't know how the transfers are going to be yet.

Was that the assumption you made for the DVD release?
