Hey question: was it just me or was the picture on revenge of the sith dvd overly bright? At least brighter than the other DVDs.

I thought that too. However, ever since 2005 we knew they were going to include the digital Yoda, and therefore having a new transfer.

Fortunately, I don't "have to". I will do it gladly, as I love that film.

So I need to see a movie I don't like in a format that doesn't interest me so that ten years from now I might get a decent BD transfer of movies I've already paid for?

I think I'll pass on that.

I like Episode 1 personally, but even I think that is a shitty move on Lucasfilm's part. Most people are not upset that George Lucas isn't "enhancing" the films yet again, they are upset that the obvious mistakes and errors as a result of their sloppy restoration work for the 04 DVDs aren't being corrected for the Blu Ray release, even though seven years have gone by. It's lazy, sloppy, and insulting to all Star Wars fans, IMO.

Difficult to say, as that scene is of itself a lot brighter than the rest of the scenes due to the lava :p

I might be wrong, but isn that a new ROTJ shot presented on the official SW Blu-Ray site? Might be mistaken but I like to keep my hopes up.

One would think that all these displays would be calibrated to within an inch of their digial lives but given the less than ideal conditions of the venues and the fact that the whole idea is to 'wow' people with brief clips I wouldn't be surprised if everything is set up more toward torch mode than not.

Just one more grain of salt...

In order to divert arguments over the New Transfer/Old Transfer debate, what is everyone's ONE favourite scene from the whole Saga?

:ohnoes:

Actually I'm referring to the original DVD that came out in 2005. Throughout the whole movie, my copy was bright.

I think this thread has enough material now to publish in a book.

If you read it, you'll end up like this:

It was Hayden Christensen's first film!

The scene from A New Hope where Luke and Leia realize they have to swing across but get in a firefight before that happens.. I love the music and blaster action.. followed by the binary sunset scene.

I'm going to cheat a bit and have one favourite scene from both the PT and OT, though there are of course so many great scenes.

PT: Padme's Ruminations (hard one between this one and Order 66, where you can see the surprise on Ki Adi Mundi's face before he is being blasted and of course Anakin with padawans).
OT: The unmasking of Darth Vader. Rather emotional, brilliant music. Runner up, Darth Vader's reveal in ESB (I see a trend with Darth Vader reveals haha)

Falaskan 07-23-2011 07:48 PM

that looks like Sam Neil. It's Hayden?

2. The official Blu Ray site now has screen captures for each film. The Phantom Menace screenshot is clearly from the new transfer. The screenshot for The Empire Strikes Back still has the notorious pink lightsaber. http://www.starwars.com/movies/saga/

3. The initial trailer that debuted a few months ago also looked like it was sporting footage from the new Episode 1 transfer, yet the footage for the OT still had all the glitches found in the 04 master. Given the evidence we have now, it appears the trailer WAS accurate for what to expect in the Blu Rays.

I'm not saying you're wrong or right - I'd just like to point out that Disney frequently uses previously existing film versions of catalog titles to advertise and market a re-release of those catalog titles. The trailers for Sleeping Beauty, Bambi, Fantasia, Snow White etc. all used footage from the old transfers, not the new versions. Just because a display at Comic-Com or a trailer uses the old elements is no reason to firmly believe that is exactly what we're getting.

I'm tossing this out as a helpful expression of hope, rather then throwing in the towel altogether...because if the blu-ray set is the old transfer, I'm not buying, and will start looking into trying to purchase a new laserdisc player.

I'd have to say the scene when those guys are fighting with the lasers and stuff.

My favorite scene from the OT is Vader throwing the emperor down the death star reactor shaft in return of the jedi and from the prequel films the obi wan vs anakin fight from revenge of the sith. Their are so many others as well.

These flaws with the OT transfer from 2004 don't bother me at all why it bothers some fans I don't get. at all.

Because the light sabers (for example) look like crap. Even if this won't stop you from buying the set, I don't get how you or anyone else can not be at least somewhat bothered by these errors. These are rather glaring visual errors that are right in your face, and are far worse than some of the old special effects that he has "fixed" with new CGi effects.

Vashetti 07-23-2011 07:50 PM

This is my favourite scene :ohnoes:
