Well, if there's no Dollar Tree stores or the like, then yard sales are prob your only option for the U/S thing.

Good Morning, all! hey, I'm part-way there to 5000 posts already, lol... :)

Finished up with The International last night, my mother thought it was really good...

Watched some anime on Adult Swim this morning, now I'm going to play a bit of Call of Duty (the original version, United Offensive, still think that's the best one), and get my $ss kicked online... :o:D

I thought The International was just OK.

Good Morning, Guys - I traveled to our Reading Office today to upgrade a few computers to Windows 7, but they are all fun ones to do - One is fingerprint scanning workstation, with specialized hardware that sorta-maybe works on Windows 7, after messing with a bunch of settings, and the other is a laptop with encryption on it... Yay. so, I'm busy again today - I'm really looking forward to the weekend now, after all the fun I had at work this week... :relief:

Good afternoon, Dr. Danger - The weekend is upon us, and I have lots of work to do - groceries, laundry, dishes, mowing the grass, housework... I'm better off being at work, almost... :rolleyes:

FREYMAX 3D 08-18-2012 05:26 PM

Well, I picked up the Darbee from Fors* this morning, and hooked it up in my system - unfortunately, I don't get any video at all when I have the HDMI switchbox in the chain, as in this setup: Parasound processor --> 6' High speed HDMI Cable --> HDMI Switch --> 6' High speed HDMI Cable --> Darbee --> 20' unknown speed HDMI Cable --> Epson 5010. If I remove the switch and the second 6' cable, then the Darbee works OK...

As far as the image improvement, yes, I can see a difference, but I don't know if it is really a $270 difference... I was watching "I, Robot" with the Darbee set between 45% and 60% in HD mode...

I'll try it with a couple other titles tonight, but if I can't use the Darbee and the HDMI switch both together as it stands now, I'm definitely leaning towards returning the unit to Fors* so he can return it for a refund... I don't feel like going out and spending another $150 on a new HDMI switch and 20' High Speed cable just to test out if I can get all the pieces to work together... :(

Do what you feel best Troy. But the unit does make an improvement if you place the Darblet after the switch no? Is there no way that you can place the Darblet as close as possible to the Epson?

That's where I had it, AFTER the switch. When the signal goes through the switch first, the blue "Video" light on the Darbee doesn't even come on... take out the switch and plug the Oppo directly into the Darby, and on comes the Video light, and it works fine... I guess the switch is cutting back on enough of the signal that the Darbee won't accept it... it is a 4-year old DigiView HM-501 5 to 1 HDMI switch, I need that because I have four HDMI sources connected to my projector - the Oppo, an all-region DVD player, my Directv box, and an HTPC... Maybe I need one of the newer high-speed-rated switches... Monoprice has one for about $40 shipped... but that's even more money I don't have. :(

Like I said, I can definitely see an improvement in the picture, just like everyone is posting up in the Darbee threads - I popped in LotR-Return of the Kings and it really showed up in that... but to me it still isn't enough of an improvement that I really want to pay over $300 for it...

I have to tell you, $270 on my system for a 3-5% improvement is a steal. Once you get to a certain level (as most of us on here are) a small improvement is usually VERY expensive.

Troy, I was going to suggest what HTG said. Why not install the Darbee right before the display???

Why? If the Drablet (Travis term!) isn't getting any video signal right after the HDMI switch (no blue Video light), it's not going to matter if I put it at the other end of the 20' cable - it still ain't gonna get a signal if the switch kills it - that extra 20' run of standard-speed-rated cable isn't going to magically amplify the signal to the Darbee now, is it?? :confused:

Doesn't Work:
Processor --> 6' cable --> HDMI Switch --> 6' cable --> (signal lost here) Drablet --> 20' cable --> Projector

Might Somehow Magically Work??
Processor --> 6' cable --> HDMI Switch --> 20' cable --> Drablet --> 6' cable --> Projector

Works Fine:
Processor --> 6' cable --> Drablet --> 20' cable --> Projector

Wow, Troy, wasn't trying to get your panties in a wad. I don't know how your system is setup. I installed my Darbee right before the display. Just didn't know why you would have signal loss after installing the darbee. I would assume it doesn't have a very "powerful" HDMI output, thus installing it closest to the projector would be the most logical place to put it.

No no, you took it the wrong way - I was only joking around with some sarcastic humor... sorry Guy! I only talk smart like that for real to Aero...! ;) :)

So anyway, it's not the output of the Doobie I'm having a problem with, it's the signal at it's input - if I plug the darby directly into my Oppo, the blue video light on the front of the Darbee comes on, indicating that the unit is receiving proper video, and it sends the video on out through the 20' cable to the projector just fine... but when I plug the Darbee into the HDMI swiitch, there is no video light, so the video most likely is not "strong" enough for the Darbee to accept - the switch must attenuate the video enough that it won't sync with the Darbee. I'm sure it's the switch, because I've always had some handshaking issues with the projector where I sometimes have to cycle through the HDMI inputs on the switch back to the one I'm using, to get it to redo the handshake.

well, that sucks. I can't believe you can pass a 3D signal if it is that weak??? I had to change my HDMI cable as it would not pass a 3D signal at all when I installed the RS 40. It would pick it up occasionally, but I would have to turn it the components on in a particular order. Even then some of the time it wouldn't catch the 3D EDID.

I think you can pick up a high speed cable from Monoprice relatively cheap....

We watched Hunger Games tonight and we are having some issues with the audio since the oppo 93 firmware update. I did a factory reset hoping that will clear up the issue....

Good morning Troy, I just found a post of your's over on AVS that I found interesting. Seems your HDMI switch also causes issues with passing some 3D content correctly. Plus you stated you have an older speed rated cable going to your Epson. Taking the switch out of the equation for the moment you still might not be getting the full effect of what the Darbee (or whatever your term for the gadget is being used today) is capable of doing due to the older long HDMI cable to the projector. That could be why you do not see enough of an improvement to justify the cost. All of my cabling is high speed rated with some being 1.3b or 1.4 certified. Just thought I would post my observation. :shrug: Hope you having a relaxing Sunday.
